Ristorante Santa Lucia — Restaurant in Heidelberg

If you’re staying for business at the adjacent Hilton, skip this place. I arrived at 7:40 pm on a Saturday to a semi packed house but was able to find a table after being told to ‘sit anywhere’. After half an hour with no service, the menu was slammed in front of me and I made my choice based on the photos on Google. The house wine was rancid and no one stopped by for any service or follow up.

They are severely understaffed with one older lady running the tables and a younger fellow running the food. After an hour, there is still no food and no visit from the single waitress in the restaurant. Clearly, they cater to locals and a table for 1 or 2 isn’t a priority. I had to ask for EVERYTHING. Not once did she come by to ask how the meal was going although I witnessed this many times at other tables. The best Italian restaurant in Heidelberg. The quality of the food is really high. For Italian standard this is definitely a good restaurant with amazing pizza and amazing fish. Obviously the prices are high but compared to the quality of the food I'd say they are ok. All other Italian restaurants in town are absolute not comparable. The owners are often second or third generation Italians with no idea about high quality products and still have customers because unfortunately Germans have totally lost the ability to judge high quality food. As an Italian, I am extremely picky about Italian restaurants outside of Italy. This is a restaurant I would recommend even if it was in Italy, therefore absolutely a must if you want to have Italian food in Heidelberg!
