WORST service ever received in Europe!
My family and I came to this restaurant during a busy 6 o’clock dinner rush on a Friday. We had settled on this restaurant after reading the thousands of positive reviews and were excited to eat our first meal in Munich at this highly acclaimed restaurant. However, we were severely disappointed with the service at this establishment.
We were seated immediately next to another family, as it was a busy night and there were no other tables available. After a few minutes with the menu, we had already decided and waited patiently to order. There were only three waiters serving at least 30 parties, so we understood if it took a while for the waiters to make their way around to our table. Eventually after 15 more minutes, one of the male waiters came over to serve the family next to us. So, we assumed that he would be our waiter and tried to order. However, he started walking away and claimed that he wasn’t our waiter, pointed to a female waiter with short hair a few tables down and insisted she was our waiter. We waited for 15 more minutes as the servers moved from table to table, but never came to ours. The female waitress passed by our table multiple times to take the orders of the tables in front and behind of us, but never stopped to take our order. After 45 minutes of waiting, none of the servers had paid us a second of attention. True, it was a very packed night at the restaurant, but other people who had been seated after us had already received their food when we hadn’t even ordered yet. After an unbearable 50 minute long wait, we tried to signal to the waitress, who was a few tables down, that we were ready to order. She stared at us with disdain for a few moments before heading in our direction. We believed that we would finally be ordering, but no. She stops at the table right in front us to collect their dirty dishes before leaving to deliver the dishes to the kitchen. As she passed our table, I asked her if we could order when she came back, but she vehemently claimed that she wasn’t our waiter and that the male server, who had previously asserted he wasn’t our server, was our actual waiter. At this point, we were tired of the wait, the blatant disregard, and the irresponsibility of the waiters that didn’t want to own up and take our order. We promptly left at this moment and went to a Chinese restaurant near our hotel that was worlds better than this outrageous establishment.
We understand that it was a very busy night at the restaurant and the servers were doing their best to serve everyone, but their blatant disregard for my family can only be pointed to their racist attitudes. If you are Asian, I highly suggest you avoid this restaurant. This establishment’s behavior to Asians is absolutely unacceptable. Zero stars, horrible racist serving staff that refused to...

Read moreSleazy and tourist hungry, apparently. Augustiner-Keller came as the most highly recommended restaurants/biergartens in all of Munich; instead, my wife and I were targeted as gullible tourists on the first day of our honeymoon.
Our waiter was a quick talker, knew some English, and was friendly. I was so excited to try some traditional German/Bavarian food. And the food was wonderful. It was our waiter that made it so I will not be returning at any point in the future and will be discouraging any tourists in the future.
This was not a misunderstanding, or language barrier issue. I was extremely clear and pointed directly to the menu and our waiter even reiterated and pointed himself. He attempted three lies at once:
First, he brought out a dessert with our entrees as if it were complimentary or a part of the order. We ordered nothing close to this… Next, he attempted to charge us for double the price of this dessert which, again, we didn’t even order… Last, after pointing, reiterating, and specifically making sure he understood that we ordered the 1/4 (QUARTER) portion duck entree, he still charged us for the 1/2 (HALF) portion entree.
I repeat, this was not a misunderstanding; we were targeted on an off-day weekday dining hour and taken advantage of. He attempted to explain his error but his excuses fell short, even to the noticing of who seemed like his superior on the dining floor. Prices didn’t make sense, excuses were boldly made up, and we negotiated to have the extra dessert to be removed (because we ate the one he brought, assuming it was included for some reason). And at this point, arguing the duck portion order wasn’t worth it to cause a scene, which I’m sure our waiter counted on.
This was predatory, deliberate, and wildly unbecoming of such a popular and well-established name in Munich dining.
The food was wonderful, but there is absolutely no way we will be back after how we were treated. I should give 0 stars purely due to this fiasco; however, the kitchen does not deserve such a discredit.
If you’re a tourist, avoid Augustiner-Keller and its...
