Achilleas - Vergina — Restaurant in Athens

Don’t visit this restaurant as a POC or as a white person who wants to be supportive. My recent visit to this restaurant left me with mixed emotions. While the ambiance and food were decent, the service was disappointingly slow. What bothered me the most was the apparent discrepancy in the staff's responsiveness. There was a noticeable delay whenever our friend, a person of color, tried to order or request the bill even though staff definitely saw her . In contrast, when I, a white Greek individual, made similar requests, the response was immediate. This inconsistency left a sour taste in our mouths, overshadowing an otherwise enjoyable meal. It's disheartening to feel that there might be a racial bias at play. I believe in equal treatment for all customers, regardless of their background. I hope the restaurant takes steps to address this issue and ensures a more inclusive and welcoming environment...

The Pita Chicken Gyros at Achilleas Vergina was the perfect way to start my food tour; it was incredible! I had gyros and souvlaki in the States and nothing compared to this. I normally order pork but the server recommended chicken and he didn’t steer me wrong. The chicken was so flavorful, crispy, and juicy. The highlight was surprisingly the sauce, which I expected to be tzatziki but was an even better dijon/mayo/mustard concoction that I wish I knew the name of. Everything came together so beautifully and I highly recommend this spot, even though it’s a little far from the city center! Was giving this site from my sister-in-law to eat here …Just ate here not pleased at all my chicken tasted very dry. My husband tried ordering a pasta dish and was unavailable then asked about a hamburger, but waiter said it would take 20 minutes, so He asked for the chicken burger dinner. It took less than 2 minutes to get our meals. His meal consisted of a little bit of cut up dried chicken on this huge bun. He ended up not eating the bun and ate some of my dinner along with the salad. The waiter then offered us a consolation prize for the meal which we didn’t care for neither. Then it took a moment to get our ticket… the best part of the meal was the Alfa beer that made me a little tipsy to forget about...
