Located in one of the most beautiful streets of Exarchia, Avli is a small, cozy tavern with a warm atmosphere. The interior is also relatively small with a few tables, reminiscent of a traditional Greek home. The service was very friendly and helpful, making us feel comfortable. The menu offered many choices, but it is important to know that apart from the daily specials, the main dishes are mostly meat. We chose to order various appetizers as they seemed tempting. The green salad that came first was nice and tasty, but unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended. The fava was bland and swimming in oil, the mushrooms with cheese were okay but the presentation was uninspiring, we also ordered another cheese which was also okay and some leek keftedes which tasted JUST FRIED.

Our experience was limited, but that's what we got. Also, the prices seemed a bit high to us. We paid 42 euros for five appetizers and without drinking anything.

The good part was the dessert they brought us, I have to tell.

Got seated very quickly and the staff was super nice. My appetizer was amazing, Grilled Mastelo of Chios, the flavor of the cheese was great and it was grilled perfectly. The jam on top had a great flavor to it. It was a bit sour and sweet but much to my liking. The main course for myself was the Grilled Squid. It comes served over a pea puree. The plating was nice but the dish was a bit unusual. Unusual in a good way that is, I haven’t seen a dish like this before with the puree and all. I thoroughly enjoyed my main course and enjoyed the uniqueness of the dish, it was cooked well and had a bunch of great flavors complementing each other. When I got to dessert the waitress recommended the Raspberry Cheesecake and she was right. I am a bit cheesecake fan and that is the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. The crust was soft but firm. The cheese was flavorful and light. The raspberry sauce on top was sweet with a hint of sour. Definitely would come back for the experience. The place is also well decorated and very homey.
