Food great but waiter very unfriendly.

One day before our dining we entered shortly to see the place, and one of the staff super friendly convinced us to come the next day later for what we thought was "drinks at the view of Acropolis" at 21.30 .

Because we thought they will only serve drinks in the night, we had already dinner. When we were sited at the table our Waiter, a lady with short hair, was not that friendly with us, but this doesn't end here. We just wanted to have some drinks enjoy the view and have some Tzatziki. When we ordered some wine and the Tzatziki the waiter watch us bad at our misspronunciacion and told us "you came here for dinner not snacks". We kindly explain to her, smiling, that we didn't knew because we thought was a invitation for drinks at 21.30 and we are full, we already had dinner, but she insisted that we needed to order food and then she left. In that moment we were thinking that we should go somewhere else but she came with our wine and waited us to order food. My boyfriend ordered food but I was too full and couldn't eat so I ordered some dessert (Icecream, super good) but she watch me very bad for my order and was very unhappy with us. All the experience made me feel bad, I didn't enjoy the evening there, I would recomend the food but be aware that u should order food! The other stuff was very friendly, but never have I experienced such a thing....anywhere, and I was a waitress for 4 years, worked in 2 restaurants.

Why would u force someone to order food when they are full, we left half of the food on the table and got throw to trash ... and was a mistake that we didn't realised was a dinner reservation, which was not specified when we reserved. If we knew we wouldn't have dine somewhere else and probably would have had a nice experience.

But kindness and understandness is important....before ruining someone's evening with bad looks...

How can you enjoy your dinner/drinks/dessert when you feel unwelcome...

Restaurant in the traditional Old Town Square in Monastiraki. The décor is very beautiful and quite attentive, referring to the old times of Athens definitely referring to the square in this way as they have used many old furniture table lamps a wonderful sofa and upholstery of another era. The food is Greek cuisine with many traditional elements tangled up a bit at east and even far as India . Certainly you will not eat anything bad though it is purely a tourist shop. Very good service fast enough friendly and helpful. Some weekends or holidays have attentive Greek live music of the old days. Prices are moderate to economical compared to what they offer and the place they are located. Definitely recommended.

I visited many times cafe avissinia over the years and it is always one of the best food and fun experiences i had. Not only the food is excellent , cooked in greek local recipes that are getting lost over the years, but also the material that are being used are better than what i buy for my own home ! Fresh , excellent quality ! for meat eaters for example you cannot find this quality of meat nowhere -even not even in private homes in the city. Let, alone the food -the views to the Acropolis, the magic rooftops, the moon , the locality of the antiques market, the polite people that greed you at the entrance and later serve your food ! The live music when it is the day .. there are no words to describe the whole. As somebody that has spent there most of my special days like anniversaries, work meetings, birthdays i bless “godess Athena “ that this place exists and remains open over the years to make our life richer in Athens. If you want the real local experience where you can meet locals that know their city and food , you should not miss this. Value for money beyond words -try and judge on yourselves! It is incredible how they keep the price for such a service in so moderate levels. As for the greek readers i will not now translate all these-The foodies that do not look for a quick fix found in plastic processed meat and food ( as it is everywhere) know well avissinia and what i am writing ! They know who they are are. For the rest join our club we...

AMAZING ACROPOLIS VIEW 💯 Hidden gem in the center of Athens, I didn’t even realize it had such a great view when I saw it from outside, but once u get upstairs you are amazed. Menu and prices are ok, I ordered the mousakas and was delicious. House wine also decent. Would have been a 5 star experience if the waiter at the end wouldn’t have been so rude and angry that me and my friends split the bill. I understand is not how Greeks normally do, but if u have a restaurant in the center where mostly tourists will come to eat, you must adapt to the situation and be always polite. Everybody pays by card nowadays, what is so difficult to split a bill? I’ve been a waitress for a few years as well and I never had an issue doing that. We even left a good tip which I believe he didn’t deserve. It made me feel very uncomfortable and he didn’t even went next to each person at the table (7 people) to charge each card, he just stood on one spot and crossed his arm all across my friends seating next to him, super rude.

One of our favorite restaurants (food and ambience-wise) during our visit to Athens! This cafe is a perfect place to either just get some coffee and desserts or a full on meal after perusing the vintage market right outside. They serve classic Cretan dishes made with fresh ingredients and care. We got the soutzoukakia meatballs and the oven baked lamb dish, which were delicious and tender. The desserts weren’t too sweet and exactly what I wanted and more. We had prunes stuffed with nuts in a bowl of cream and milk pudding with rose water, pistachios, and honey. The cafe interior is so charming and filled with beautiful vintage touches. They also have rooftop seating with a direct view of the Acropolis. The owners were so sweet and helpful as well. Vibes were truly immaculate the whole time— I cannot recommend this place more!!!

Our first time ever in Greece. Seemed like the perfect time to experience our first rooftop meal. I ordered the traditional Greek salad as an appetizer along with some garlic bread. It was better than expected. Both were delish! My entree was a smoked pork chop. No sides came with it. But the pork chop portion was enough. It was topped with a great tangy glaze along with cooked cherry tomatoes. Needless to say, it was delicious! One of my main reasons for choosing this rooftop was how clear the Acropolis was viewed from there. I had never been there. But as I was walking the shops, I saw a waiter standing along the edge of the outdoor dining. I told my husband we had to find it and dine there. The restaurant is located near a ton of little shops. But believe me, it did NOT disappoint!
