By the time we reached outside of our apartment, we were famished. We already knew the nearby restaurants so we're debating where to go.then we found this restaurant on main street ....The waiter and restaurant manager were very courteous. We were welcomed and served well.
As we were Super hungry, we ordered more than we normally do: Appetizers, 2–3 curry, Naan (Indian flat bread or Tandoori bread with lot of butter), desert. We noticed that when they were taking the order, they were thinking a little (making eye contact between them) and confirming twice.
The food was served hot. We ate like pigs till our soul satisfied. The food was delicious. We called the manager and told him how badly we wanted to eat that night and our neighborhood needed a good restaurant and service like them. The manager was extremely happy. He said “Atithi Devo Bhava (Guest is God)”. It touched my heart. Now a days “Atithi Devo Bhava” is just preached but not practiced however this restaurant was something different. This is by far the best restaurant experience in Athens . .highly recommended . By the time we reached outside of our apartment, we were famished. If you're craving authentic Indian food in Athens, look no further than Dosa King. From the moment we stepped in, we were warmly greeted and made to feel at home — the hospitality here is as heartwarming as the food itself. The restaurant is located just steps away from the bustling Monastiraki and Ermou Street area, yet once you're inside, it's a peaceful and cozy haven filled with the aromas of spices and sizzling dosas.
We started with their signature masala dosa, and it was perfection — golden, crispy edges with a soft center, stuffed with spiced potatoes, served with piping hot sambar and two chutneys: coconut and tomato. The sambar was fragrant and mildly tangy, just the way it should be. I’ve eaten dosas in many cities around the world, and I can confidently say this was one of the best.
Next, we ordered the North Indian thali, and it was an explosion of flavors — creamy paneer butter masala, rich dal makhani, perfectly spiced aloo sabzi, fragrant basmati rice, warm phulkas, papad, and even sweet gulab jamun to end with. Every bite reminded me of meals back home. The dal makhani in particular deserves a special mention — slow-cooked, smoky, and deeply satisfying.
We also tried the chaat platter — the papdi chaat and dahi puri were tangy, crunchy, and beautifully balanced. It’s rare to find Indian street food that tastes this fresh and vibrant outside India.
To cool off, we had their mango lassi and chaach (spiced buttermilk) — both served chilled and incredibly refreshing, especially after a long summer walk through the streets of Athens. The lassi was thick and creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness But what truly sets Dosa King apart is not just the authenticity of the food, but the care they put into every detail. the ingredients are clearly fresh, and the staff genuinely love what they do. The owner even came over to ask how our meal was and shared a bit of their story — they’ve built a place that brings comfort and culture to anyone missing Indian flavors Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, or just a lover of flavorful food, this restaurant caters to all with an extensive and thoughtful menu. They also offer live dosa counters for events and catering, which we’re already considering for our next family...
