HANOI ATHENS - AUTHENTIC VIETNAMESE FOOD — Restaurant in Athens

Insanely good food, at a price you can't beat in a place you wouldn't be looking for it. Hanoi is on Petraki street, a pedestrian only alley between Ermou and Mitropoleos. Our hotel was across from it and we kept smelling how good the food was daily coming and going. Being in Athens, our focus was of course Greek food and things we thought we should experience on our trip. A day or two before we were to leave we thought "we're tired, don't want to go too far - we should try it". I think we had an idea in our heads that Vietnamese food was maybe so far different than Chinese food in America. We could not have been more wrong. We got a noodle dish with chicken and vegetable fried rice and chicken spring rolls to go, and we were astounded! The flavors were so good, the food so fresh, it was easily some of the best food we had on the trip (and we had a LOT of good food). There are only a few tables out front, and maybe 6 tables inside and this place stays packed for hours up until midnight most days. A gem in the neighbourhood, it’s a rainy chill night and we found this place serving authentic hanoi pho.

We love everything we ordered. Fresh spring roll, fried spring roll, papaya salad and pho.

The fried spring roll was served piping hot. Dad says very tasty, be careful as it’s really hot inside.

The fresh spring roll, taste so good with the peanut sauce. Remind me of sg satay peanut sauce, taste so nice! Prawns are fresh, I love it.

Papaya salad is crunchy with lots of vegetables. There are prawns and chicken. Not the sour Thai style, this taste just right.

All 6 of us had pho, chicken and beef pho. The soup is so flavourful yet not salty. We can easily say it taste better from the ones we had in hanoi years back. They have really spicy chilli sauce that pair really good with the meat. Ask for chilli padi or mint if you like them like we do.

Lovely surprise, they gift us fortune cookie (1 each) when checking out. This brought a short entertainment moment for my family introducing fortune cookies to my parents and we had a good laugh.

After a night in theatre, we decided to go for a quick dinner. We ordered a pho soup with chicken and coriander to share, 3 main courses to put in the middle (caramelised chicken with steam rice, chicken with coco milk and steam rice and pouch with veggies and chicken that didn’t came) and a bottle of wine. When the soup came it looked very watery, but with the first taste we immediately change idea. It was foul of taste and flavour and when we put some chilli (we like spicy foods) it went to another level, sooo tasty!! Then the two main courses came. The portions were very big, tasty and everything well balanced so that you could feel all the ingredients. The steam rice was also very well cooked and just as it would be. The 3rd main dish (pounces with veggies and chicken), thank god they forgot it, since the food we had was way too much for 2 persons!
