We visited Athinaikon Restaurant in Athens on the recommendation of our hotel (Titania) on 7/9/2025, as we were looking for comforting indoor dining rather than quick bites in the busy Agora. It was early afternoon after getting off our cruise—we weren’t sure what to order, but the friendly staff and inviting menu helped us explore traditional Greek flavors. We started with the daily specials: stuffed zucchini flowers and feta and spinach pie. I ordered the pork skewer (tenderloin) with tomato, grilled pita, tzatziki, onions, and fried potatoes. My dad had the grilled sardine fillets with tomato slices and thyme on grilled rye bread. Everything was delicious and filling—perfect for a first meal back on land. The waiter warmly welcomed us to Athens and invited us to return, which we did—later that evening for dinner. He recognized us immediately, greeting us with a handshake and a hug, and recommended the fish dishes. Sitting next to us was a friendly couple—an American from St. Louis and her Greek husband—who told us this was one of their favorite spots for authentic Greek food. They were right. For dinner, we had the fried crayfish with Thousand Island sauce, a Greek salad, and the grilled fillet of gilt-head bream with parsnip purée and seasonal steamed greens. It was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and even better than lunch. At the end of the meal, we were served a complimentary dessert—a light, creamy treat that looked like ice cream, topped with pink chocolate dots. I don’t remember the name, but it was the perfect sweet finish. Overall, the food, service, and hospitality at Athinaikon were outstanding. One of the best dining experiences we had in Athens. Highly recommended!

The Athinaikon Restaurant impressed us a lot. The food is phenomenal. We had tzatziki and olive oil with some bread as our appetiser which didn’t disappoint. The main dishes we had were Grilled meatballs (Köfte) and Mushrooms Risotto which we also liked a lot. I heard the Linguini with Cherry Tomatoes is also very good though. For dessert I really liked the Lemon Brulee Pie. Apart from that, the service was pretty good, the waiters were nice, the atmosphere is very moody. It’s a perfect place for a dinner with a friend or two. There is also a slideshow at the back which shows many of the sights and streets of Athens in the past which was very enjoyable to watch. Overall, I really can’t think of anything to criticise so I give it 5 stars

We had dinner at Athinaikon Restaurant a few days ago. It seemed to be the most to elegant looking restaurant in the area of Monastiraki. I enter with the highest expectations but I guess you can color me surprised. The food was very tasty, very well executed and cooked using decent materials. It is very close to pretty good Greek homemade cooking. The Soutzoukakia and the pork fillet that we had were awesome. Very good taste and more than enough to eradicate your hunger. The pricing was very fair as well. The service was fast and the personnel was very professional, friendly and kind. All in all a very good restaurant to go and try some original Greek food cooked the right way! Try it!

The food is ok. Some members of the staff are rude. So we are a regular clients but we have only ordered from Wolt. We went at the actual restaurant to dine with the idea to check the atmosphere there, because we wanted to celebrate a very special occasion there (with a few guests), but it is the most special occasion for my husband and I. After we finished with our food, we went to the front dest there to make the reservation for our celebration and we asked if we can make a reservation for 19-19.30, because we were coming from the city hall (we were actually getting married and we wanted to celebrate with just our best man and his wife and our parents- that was our choice), so we asked for a 30 minutes of flexibility we weren't sure we will be able to be there by 19, but because it's December we didn't want to wait out in the cold until 19.30 either. When we explained all this to the lady at the front desk she laughed. She turned to her (I guess) supervisor with the words "They aren't sure when they will come at 19 o'clock because they are getting married" and she laughed a dismissive way in our direction- she said it as she was told something ridiculous! This hurt out feelings very deeply. I left furious and begged my husband to change the restaurant because of their arrogance. However our big day came and we went to the restaurant after. They themselves had prepared a table for 7 and when we sat, my husband was told ina very ride manner by a waiter that he can't sit on the chair he was sitting (that they had put there themselves) because he was disturbing the movement of the waiter (which was not true and even a lady from the table next to us called the waiter on that when she heard it). When I asked the waiter why they themselves put the chair there- he stormed away. My husband changed places. On our wedding day he sat across from me, because we didn't want to ask our guests to move. The story didn't end there. One of our guests forgot his electronic cigarette there. We got a call the next day from the restaurant that they have found an electronic cigarette there. In the mean time, our guest who forgot the cigarette had called the restaurant and they insured him that it's there. When the restaurant called us to inform us about the find, they insured us that they will keep it untill we our our guest arrive there to retrieve it. So our guest went to the restaurant the next day to retrieve his electronic cigarette and the staff on site told him no electronic cigarette was found. I repeat the restaurant contacted us (as they had our number on the reservation) and they talked with our guest (who forgot the electronic cigarette there) and these calls were not connected to each other. And I also repeat- when he went there to retrieve his belonging they told him no such item was ever found there AFTER THEY THEMSELVES CALLED THAT IT WAS FOUND. In one word - this restaurant mocked us and tried to destroy our wedding day. Oh and they find forgotten items and when one gets there to retrieve their item, it magically vanishes, I guess someone on the staff has sticky fingers. Never EVER getting back there. And I will NOT...

I ate here two evenings in a row, mid March 2024. I suspect that the restaurant underwent renovations in the last decade or so. You get the impression that it has been in this location for very long time but that the modern look is very recent, I would call the atmosphere comfortable and someone’s idea of a modern look. I didn’t care for it personally, but many people will love it. The food was roundly Excellent. I had the stuffed squid one night and the lamb, the next and sausage and beans and plenty of wine and Uzo, everything was very good and as everyone in these reviews remarks quite inexpensive. Maybe 10 or 15% more expensive than a cheap tavern but the food is much better and the serving portions are very large. I would describe the cuisine as a modern take on Greek cooking. But not too modern, like what you ate at grandmas only a little bit better. As everyone here on Google reviews remarks, the weight staff is superb. I would say that the ratio of waitstaff to diners is about twice what it is in the United States. What you get is a large team of eight or 10 very experienced staff, mostly male, ready to appear suddenly when your wine is low or when you need new silverware, everyone there is extremely professional and extremely experienced and there to guarantee you a flawless...
