The food here was good, but the service leaves much to be desired. Absolutely horrendous. This restaurant is a tourist trap and they will take advantage of you. I ordered the vegetarian moussaka and took a bite of what I was served before I realized I was given the regular meaty moussaka. I have been vegetarian for years, so of course I could not eat this. When I brought this to our servers attention, he very condescendingly said he was sorry and that he couldn’t do anything about it. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if there is an issue with your order, anywhere in the world, the restaurant workers usually try to make amends. Instead, I was told it was impossible to change my food and very confusingly, that this was moussaka, and didn’t seem to genuinely own up to the mistake or offer any alternative. To us, it seemed like he was saying that there was no vegetarian moussaka. He then said something to us, speaking very quickly in Greek, when he had previously been speaking to us in perfect English. I am not saying that everybody needs to speak English. Obviously, we are in Greece and Greek is the language spoken here. I wish I knew Greek and could order in Greek and speak to people in Greek, but I do not, which he previously seemed to understand. But this seemed like a diversion to confuse us and make us feel uncomfortable and out of place. He provided no solutions to our issue, so we were proactive and we asked to see the menu so I could order something else suitable for vegetarians. He then stood at the bar talking with his colleagues for five minutes before returning and asking if I wanted the vegetarian version. Well yes, that’s what I asked for in the first place!! So he DID understand what went wrong, but didn’t want to actually address it in the first place. He told us he would bring a box for the meaty moussaka, but we said we didn’t want it because 1. We didn’t order it and 2. We are both vegetarian and cannot eat it. He faked being sad that we couldn’t eat the meaty moussaka and asked if we could give it to a friend, to which we relented. Finally, after my friend had finished her meal, I got my vegetarian moussaka, which was good, but not worth the trouble or the price for the area. Yesterday, we had eaten at a nearby restaurant where we had appetizers, a main, dessert, and wine for half the price. Partly because we were forced to pay for the meaty moussaka that I did not order. Ridiculous! He then had the audacity to ask if we wanted to tip. First of all, it is not the custom to tip in Greece. Secondly, if your system has an option for tipping, you typically show the card reader to the customer and have them input the tip themselves, rather than directly asking for a tip. We felt pressured in this way to leave a tip for the terrible service we encountered. Also, he only spoke to my friend and not to me, which we didn’t think much of at first since she knows a bit of Greek and had spoken a few phrases of it at the beginning of our interaction. However, after reading other reviews, I suspect this behavior may have been racially motivated. AVOID AT ALL COSTS (which are high at...
Read moreThis place came highly recommended from a coworker of someone in our travelling group. We had booked a reservation for our last night in Athens and were super excited to try it out. We had looked at the website for the menu before so we knew what to get going in. When we got there, the main restaurant was doing reservation so we got escorted out to the other section. When we got sat down, the menu was totally different & prices were much more expensive on the menu they gave us than the one on the website. We asked someone about this different because on the website the steak was 16 euros but on the menu provided it was 40 euros. The response was that "It wasn't their responsibility to update the website & there's nothing they can do about it". We were taken aback because we didn't understand the price change or why they couldn't explain why there was a difference. After this we sat at the table for about 10-15mins and nobody came to the table at all. During this time, we had decided that we were going to find another place to eat. We had already ordered some drinks so we asked for the bill & when it came we noticed there was a charge for something we didn't understand. When we asked our server he said "That was for the water I poured". None of us had ordered the water, they brought it to the table when they sat us and we assumed it was something they just did at the restaurant, like every other one. We told him that nobody ordered the water and it was just poured for us and the server said "The water comes with the reservation but you get charged for it". Again we were confused as to how this made sense but we just paid so we could go somewhere else. We left the restaurant and coincidentally ended up eating at the restaurant right beside it. When the workers saw us being seated next door, they laughed at us, pointed at us, and started mocking us. Overall, I would NEVER recommended this restaurant to anyone and cannot believe what we...
Read moreI’ve been here a few times now, this is one of the oldest restaurants in the Plaka area, just off Pandrosou St. up Monastiraki square. The food is an upscale version of the typical Greek cuisine, and they offer quite a few traditional dishes, like stuffed vegetables with rise, lamb in the oven with potatoes, etc. I have to say they’ve always been spot on with the flavors! I’m always happy to eat homemade food and this is as close as it gets! Their catalogue is really long too with fish, mezes, and grilled meat, though I usually opt for one of their dishes of the day. If you want to try something the Greeks typically eat at home this is a good place to go. The service is always polite, the environment inviting and relaxed, and you can check out their daily selection right as you enter the restaurant. A lot of locals eat here, so they must be doing something right. The price might be a bit higher than in your usual taverna (though not too much), which I find fair. Highly recommended!! PS. There’s live music in the weekends, especially in the summer months. Best time to...
