Jaipur Palace Plaka — Restaurant in Athens

We had a lovely Indian meal last night — the curries were absolutely gorgeous. They advertised a choice of spice levels (mild, medium, hot, extra hot), but unfortunately, when we ordered, no one asked what heat level we wanted. I had to request it myself — I went for hot, and both the chickpeas and lentils came out perfectly spiced, with great flavour and just the right amount of heat.

Some of our group had the lamb jalfrezi. We originally wanted the chicken jalfrezi, as shown on the online menu, but it wasn’t available. The chicken tikka, however, was a highlight — really tasty and not overly creamy like some versions can be.

The rice and naan breads were also excellent — fresh and full of flavour.

One downside was the lack of zero-alcohol lager; I had to go to another bar to get one. To their credit, the staff were happy for me to drink it at the table. Another disappointment was the price of the red wine — €30 for a bottle is steep, especially considering how affordable wine generally is in Athens.

It would’ve been great to see more side dishes available — we were hoping for options like saag or tarka dal, but sadly there were none.

That said, the curries themselves were very good value. And a lovely final touch: they brought halva for everyone. Normally we’re not fans of traditional halva as it's often too dry, but this one was moist, syrupy, and...
