I usually don't write reviews but I do read them and after going today to Taverna Akropoli I also had to share my experience. I was desperate to eat a soup so when I saw that they have fish soup I immediately decided to sit there. And I also ordered moussaka. First they brought me moussaka which was a bit strange cause you usually start with soup but ok. In the middle of eating moussaka they come with the soup. So I stopped eating moussaka and switched to the fish soup. That soup was literally uneatable! I don't know how old the soup was but it was sooo sour. When the waiter came I told him about the soup and that I can't eat and he said that he will check with chef. 5 min later he comes to tell me that I don't have to pay for the soup but that the soup has to taste like that and you could see in his eyes that he knew that the soup was sooo bad. During that whole time I guess the owner or manager of the restaurant was sitting at the table next to me and talking loudly on the phone and with the waiters. Food was not good, atmosphere was not good. Even having the view at Akropolis couldn't...

This place is in a wonderful location and it looks really beautiful but that's where the nice bits ended. The waiter was difficult from the start and looked down on us for being tourists. We should have walked away at this point but we didn't realise that it would get worse than this. The food at best was average. The feta in the salad was old, the spaghetti was swimming in oil and lukewarm. The calamari was so tough it was impossible to cut some pieces with a knife. It was impossible to finish this meal. It didn't end here. The toilet was broken and had no toilet paper. When I went inside to pay for the meal the waiter asked for a tip while the owner stood behind me. The whole place was smoky with a stale oil smell. They seem to treat tourists with derision even though most of their customers would be tourists. Even though we are not local we know what bad food is. I do not recommend this place even though the location is...

The view of the Agora next to it is the only reason why this restaurant gets 2 stars instead of 1. The food was terrible. Everything was extremely bland. The octopus was overcooked to the point of being burnt, served with unseasoned boiled vegetables. The chicken had no flavor. We were served overdone bread, didn't ask for it and we were charged for it, nothing to go with the bread (butter, olive oil, etc.)

The staff was rude. They gave us the check right after we placed the order. We were charged for our meals that we didn't really eat, and instead of at least offering to take the food off of the bill, the waiter lectured us saying we could've ordered something else.

No indoor dining, all outside. The inside is basically just the kitchen and bathroom area. The bathrooms did not have running water for the sinks, so we couldn't wash our hands.

Bottom line,...

We happened across this place by chance after not being able to pass up the location and incredible view. We were fully expecting it to be a tourist trap but we were happily surprised. The waiters were all super helpful and kind. The food was delicious and the prices very reasonable for the location. We've paid more in Athens in worst spots with poor service and poor food. The views were amazing and although the tables were along a walkway it didn't feel overly busy or chaotic as is the case around the corner. There was also lovely music being played on the streets at the entrance to the agora that really added to the atmosphere. It is for sure a bit touristy but if you are looking to get the Taverna experience with an incredible view then look no further.

Went here with my mom after visiting the Acropolis, it's maybe a 15min walk down the hill. When sitting outside, you'll have a nice view of the ruins next to the restaurant. The food was served in rather large portions and you'll be served bread as soon as you sit down. Everything was delicious. There is a small one-way street next to the outside seating area, so there will be cars and lots of pedestrians walking by. Our waiter was very friendly and eager to help, but others weren't as nice, almost a bit rude. Nonetheless, a nice place to grab some food.

Fantastic place to sit and enjoy a cold one like Stone Cold! It's a bit away from the tourist trap area so it's quieter than all the typical places full of marks (no pun intended, as I am indeed a Mark!) It looks out onto the Roman Agora, so you can save the ticket fee and spend it on some beer instead! Your liver won't thank you though! We had a bit of entertainment as a smackhead walked through, but that's to be expected in any major city around the globe. There's a few on every street corner in my hometown, so I can forgive Athens for just the one.
