Tekila markets itself as a Mexican restaurant, but the dining experience falls far short of expectations. Unfortunately, most of the dishes barely resemble authentic Mexican cuisine. The menu is a perplexing mix of mismatched items, including salads with figs and Parmesan cheese, burgers, and mushrooms with Greek Metsovone cheese. Even classic Mexican staples were poorly executed, often accompanied by a fake cheddar sauce that felt more appropriate for a bag of Doritos than a restaurant dish.
The food quality was equally disappointing. The shrimp tacos, for instance, were served cold, featuring tiny, overly chewy prawns accompanied by a few pieces of lettuce and tomato. Easily the worst prawn tacos I’ve ever had. The beef fajitas weren’t much better – they tasted as though they had been pre-cooked and reheated, paired with soggy vegetables and plain, flavorless rice.
On the brighter side, the cocktails were enjoyable, and the atmosphere was decent, but these positives weren’t enough to salvage the overall experience. I’ve had better Mexican food from fast food chains. If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality Mexican cuisine, Tekila is not the place to find it. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t...
Read moreIt is a Mexican restaurant in the heart of Athens that has an entrance from Kolokotroni Street and an other entrance from Voulis Street. The restaurant has a very different customers approach on weekdays and weekends, but also early evening and late evening. It has very nice decoration, nice vintage furniture and unique frames.
On weekdays or early evening on weekends it operates as a restaurant, with several options of Mexican food, without being spicy, with very nice cocktails and bottles of wine from €25. The music is at normal volume and customers either have dinner at the tables or enjoy their drink standing at the bar.
In the evenings after 9.00 pm or on Saturdays, the customers approach changes completely and from a quality Mexican restaurant it turns into an overcrowding bar. The music is extremely loud and there are standing people everywhere. Even the quality of the customers is changing, as you will encounter more people showing off their wealth by illegally smoking Cuban cigars indoors and young ladies looking to meet wealthy gentlemen. Unfortunately, then it has nothing to do with our favorite...
Read moreI came here a year and a half ago and was not very impressed with the food. But I was walking by today and really wanted a taco so thought I would give it a chance. Total waste of money. The tacos, which just came with two small ones for 12€, were literally the worst I have ever had. I could have gone to the supermarket market and bought an El Paso kit and they would have been better. I asked for hot sauce. I got a bottle of Goya (again can do better in the grocery store) that was almost finished and the bottle was so sticky I had to use a napkin. I ordered a Paloma which took FOREVER to come and the grapefruit soda was completely flat. The service? Terrible. It was me and one other table. There were five people (hostess, bartender and three servers) who were all hiding in a corner texting. The only thing good I have to say about this place is that the air conditioning is pretty good. Oh and they made me buy a bottle of water for 3€ because they said one can’t drink the tap water in Athens, which is a...
