I enjoy a fine dining experience, and have been to several restaurants for extravagant meals, both Michelin starred and not. This was the worst experience of them all.
I'll start with the positive - the views of the Acropolis, the surrounding islands, and the city were spectacular. The surprise dessert bites at the end of the meal were a nice touch.
TL;DR, the bad: Service was poorly timed (somehow both rushed and slow) The meal portions for a la carte entrees and apps are teeny The wine list is lacking, and the whiskey list is laughable
-- For a full rundown of everything that I thought went wrong, keep reading:
I should mention (as I did in my reservation) that I have some dietary restrictions. Every other nice dinner I've experienced has planned for those restrictions in advance, and always has a substitution ready for me where those restrictions come into play. Tudor Hall not only didn't plan alternatives, but somehow failed to read my restrictions on my reservation to begin with, having instead to resort to asking me (3 times from 3 different servers) what my allergy is. So instead, I just received fewer items than my dietary restriction-free dining partner. When I asked about whether the degustation menu could have substitutions made, I was informed that the menu was static for all cases.
So we get seated, and it's a little chaotic. We have someone come up and ask if we would like to see the wine list or the cocktail menu. We say yes, and they seem surprised that we'd want to see both, but go to get the menu. Someone else comes up to our table, asking if we'd like a pre-dinner apertif. We say no (since we wanted to get a glass of wine or cocktail, not an apertif), and she disappears with the cocktail menus she had in her hand. Then the sommelier arrived with a tablet with a wine list, and just left us with it with no explanation of the tasting notes of the wines, or what might pair well with what. Finally, we get a cocktail menu as well.
In the middle of all that, a separate server arrives with the dinner menu (so we're now juggling three menus and a tablet). Since the dinner menu was fairly limited, that selection was easy. We went back to our wine list/cocktail menus. While we're looking, the server comes back to take our order, and happily takes our food order while we try and decide on a drink (strange order, but okay). After looking through the lackluster cocktail menu and liquor list (it should have been a tip off that their most boastful whiskey was a Macallan 12 year and they were actually serving Jack Daniels and Wild Turkey as options), I decided to get a glass of wine, but their wine list didn't have descriptions of the wine and our sommelier had disappeared. Once we flagged down a server to get him back, he was helpful, though.
Eventually our app arrived (cherry tomatoes), and I enjoyed it, though it was roughly 1/4 - 1/3 of the size I thought it would be. For dinner, I had ordered the sole meunière. This was also ~ 1/2 the size I had expected, but more importantly, it was tough and overcooked. The plate had three separate components that were not cohesive.
My partner was in the middle of eating his dinner when the waiter asked if he could clear our plates. I said no. Later, my partner was still eating, and the waiter came and cleared his plate anyway.
By the time dessert rolled around, I had lost faith in the restaurant, and decided to pass on it. My partner ordered a sorbet, and we waited 10 minutes for it to arrive. Later, it took 5-10 minutes for our check to arrive and be processed.
These things are minor, but I expect better at a Michelin restaurant: The silverware was too big for the sorbet plate No one folded my napkin when I went to the restroom When I got up to use the restroom, I wandered aimlessly past no fewer than 3 staff members who didn't help me, until eventually I asked one directly.
Overall, I spent 185 euros on a meal for two people, and I found it utterly lacking. If you're looking for a fine dining experience in Athens,...
Read moreI really hoped to write a positive review but the restaurant and staff failed in all areas they had complete control over.
Pre-arrival:
I booked weeks in advance through the hotel concierge and confirmed two times with them and once with the restaurant directly before going - sharing that my wife is vegan and gluten free. We notified them this was a special occasion, big birthday and big anniversary While the terrace seating is first come first serve, I expressed a strong desire to sit on the terrace so we booked 8pm (at their recommendation) to hopefully have those arriving at 6pm be almost done.
So, here is the experience:
We showed up, no real genuine welcome, no acknowledgment of the special occasion or anything They walked us to a table and tried to sit us inside and not on the terrace. I shared importance of Terrace and host reminded me it’s first come, first serve. We said we would prefer to wait and they said, you are first in queue to sit out there. We sat at the “bar” tabletops and had a little snack and drink. About 20 mins later, a couple (yes 2 people), left their table on the terrace and it was reset. About 10 mins later no one came and got us so I went and asked the host how it was going. I inquired if we were going to be seated soon and the host said there are still no tables, so I asked about the table for four where that couple left. the host, said, it’s reserved for another party and he is waiting for a table of 2. Given that the terrace is first come first serve, I was surprised and confused. About 10 mins later, same host approached us and said they had a “change” in their reservations and we can now sit there. Not the greatest start. Now the menu, they had V and VG items noted. That is vegetarian and vegan. Well, we were shocked to see: no vegan items on the entire menu. Absolutely none. Time to order - we shared with the waitress about vegan and gluten free. She was unaware. She came back after talking with the chef and mentioned the chef can give you lettuce and dressing (oh my), risotto (that looked like it was just tossed into a bowl) and “seasonal fruit”. Big fail on the food level. On the service, after ordering risotto with asparagus. Sadly, about 5 mins later the waitress came back and asked “what did we order”. After finishing the meal, we did opt to just leave (since the desert “option” wasn’t really an option) We needed to ask for our check…we did have an issue with our bill - which was all cleared up after 5 mins.
In summary, beautiful view of the acropolis and glad we booked at night but the restaurant failed from...
Read moreFrom the moment we stepped into Tudor Hall, we knew we were in for something special. Nestled above the city with a sweeping view of the Acropolis, the ambiance was nothing short of breathtaking — refined, serene, and steeped in timeless elegance.
The menu was a beautiful dialogue between Greek tradition and contemporary sophistication. Each dish was a tribute to technique and creativity, plated like art and rich in soul. The flavors were nuanced, balanced, and deeply thoughtful — nothing felt accidental. It’s rare to find cuisine that speaks so clearly of passion.
But what truly elevated our evening was the remarkable team behind the experience.
A heartfelt thank you to Michael, Theodora, Heleina, Demi, and George — each of you brought a unique warmth and grace that made us feel more like honored guests than diners. Your attentiveness, sincerity, and quiet confidence were unforgettable. The service flowed effortlessly, with impeccable timing, thoughtful recommendations, and genuine care.
A special thanks to Michael, who curated a wine experience that was truly one of a kind. He introduced us to rare and exquisite Hingarian and Greek wines we would have never discovered on our own — each glass perfectly complementing the journey of flavors on our plates. His knowledge and passion for wine added a whole new dimension to the evening, and it’s something we’ll remember long after the last sip.
You all made our evening not just a meal, but a memory — and we’re deeply grateful.
Tudor Hall is not just a restaurant. It is a celebration of Athens itself — elegant, historic, and...
