More of a funny story than anything.
My girlfriend and I sat down in the outside area at 6pm for a couple beers and to chill out. We ordered everything in English throughout the night, including our first and second beers over the span of about an hour and a half. We admit we were slow to finish our drinks but why be in a rush when you’re on holiday. Also there was no line for this place and plenty of spare tables, meaning we weren’t holding anything up by being slow.
As we drank we started playing a card game for around 30 mins. Having a great time and enjoying the atmosphere as the night life in Corfu came out. We then asked for the food menu and when approached by a waiter I said we didn’t want to order just yet. So he took the menus away and said ok thanks. I thought it was a bit strange he took the menus away but didn’t think much about it.
We then ordered our food in English and as the waiter went away, my girlfriend, who speaks fluent Greek, overheard them saying things along the lines of, uhhh they want a hamburger and pasta, they haven’t ordered anything this whole time, they’re just playing games, they’re being so slow. She told me they were talking about us behind our backs and gave one of the waiters a look - he seemed to get the message we knew what they were talking about and said to his other waiter friend, I think she knows we were talking about them. To his response of, nah no way they don’t know what we are talking about, there’s no way. We ate our food and then my girlfriend asked for the bill to the waiter in amazing Greek and the look on his face was priceless 😂 He responded saying ahhh you know Greek how much do you know. Being polite, in Greek she said I know a little and laughed it off. He seemed to be a bit stunned and embarrassed but had the balls to ask for a tip which was great 😂 I can understand ordering 4 drinks and food total over a couple hours is slow and we didn’t ask if we could play cards so I can see why that might have frustrated them. We both just thought it was very rude but hilarious how they thought they could get away with talking shit.
Food was overpriced and small portions and the beer was ok, you’re paying for the location. We payed 45€ for 4 beers a pasta...
Read moreWe found the restaurant by chance and were happy about the vegan lasagne on the menu. We also ordered 2 pizzas with the desire to put the cheese alternative (homemade bechamel sauce) on the pizza, which is probably possible. When we tried the cheese we were very surprised by the strong authentic cheese taste, we asked 2 people if the cheese was really vegan and if they should please ask the chef, the answer was yes, but that didn't seem honest to us. We were in Corfu for a few months and couldn't find vegan cheese like this anywhere, even in the last 4 years we've never eaten such a "good" vegan cheese, it had such strong strings as only real cheese has done so far... on the plate with the vegan lasagne there was a side dish of salad plus a piece of feta (the staff had told us that it wasn't vegan - but then it doesn't belong on a vegan dish!! ). On the vegan lasagna there was only tofu cheese, that's what it said in the menu, it was authentic.. But on the pizza, it was never vegan! My friend, who doesn't tolerate milk well, didn't feel well afterwards either. Really sad, but unfortunately many of the comments here reflect the behavior and dishonesty of the employees. Edit: WE TALKED THIS DAY WITH THE OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT AND 3 EMPLOYEES INCL. THE CHEF AND EVERYONE SAID THE CHEESE IS VEGAN! now in the comment here they confirmed what we thought, the cheese on the pizza wasn't vegan...so...
Read moreWe were waved in by one of the workers who looked to be going home, so we thought we would give it a try. Much to our disappointment however, they did not have either of our preferred meals available, burger and a carbonara, and instead suggested the tortellini and club sandwiches which we accepted.
The meal itself was displayed beautifully however neither dish had much flavour to it and unfortunately was very bland. Whilst eating, a lady came out of the cafe with her baby crying and asking for money at which point we apologised for not having any. When she persisted myself and my girlfriend both noticed the waitress serving us had made a gesture towards her and shook her head. It was at this point that the beggar then went back into the cafe with no further pleas.
The meal itself was cheap enough €21 with a beer and water included in the price, however we were then also informed that there was no card facilities for payment, when the payment was due with no signs showing this beforehand.
I would probably give...
