Ginger has a lot going for it - gorgeous location in a little Venetian square under a lush pink bougainvillea, and a lovely menu with food that lives up to expectations. Unfortunately, on our visit, the service was terrible. We had the misfortune of being served by a surly waiter who seemed to not even want to be at work. Mid-service the head waiter noticed that his employee was not doing a very good job and swapped in a perfectly lovely and courteous waiter. To make it up they gave us a complimentary glass of Prosecco - it was a good move.

Food wise, we had the tuna tartare which was fresh and delicious - it could have had a bit more flavour but perfectly satisfying. I had one of their pizzas which was enormous and very tasty. My partner had the tuna linguini, also a very generous portion, and very good too. We had a bottle of Geranium rosé which was very fresh and perfect with the food.

The following morning we had breakfast there - as it was part of our hotel’s breakfast plan. The breakfast was fantastic, coffee was on point, and, happily, the service was cheerful and attentive.

I’m not someone who usually leaves reviews, but Ginger Concept is 100% deserving of one. Tucked away from the main strip, this restaurant is on a quiet corner with the most picturesque street view. No matter what time of year you’re in Chania, this place is worth it. They have heaters for when it’s cold, adjustable patio covers for when it’s raining, and is always open - even on a national holiday. In every way, they’ve catered to diners - local Greeks and tourist alike. The service was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious as well!

And this one is for my fellow lactose intolerant travelers: I really hate being the obnoxious “American tourist” and will adjust wherever I go, but I was pleasantly surprised when Ginger Concept had almond milk. When I first ordered a vanilla latte w/ almond milk, it’s possible the barista had never made one before. However, this might have been the best vanilla latte I’ve ever had, and John (staff) made sure it was made exactly to my specific liking. I came here every morning while in Chania to get one.
