Barba Thymios — Restaurant in Municipality of Heraklion

The sidewalk hostess talked us into choosing this place and we had a seat in the back section for a party of 5. We entered at 12:30 pm. We ordered drinks and lunch. The drinks arrived in a timely fashion, but not lunch. Five other tables around us in the back section filled up and all of them ordered after us and all of them received their food before us. We were trying to be polite and wait as a nearby sign on the wall encouraged us to do. But when everyone around us had eaten and we still hadn't received our lunch, I asked the hostess. She checked her device and said no order was never placed. At the point, the waiter who took our order saw what was happening and tried to tell us to wait and he would fix it. It was 1:45 pm when we left. Our order was never placed due to "technical difficulties." But he did block our exit to make sure we paid for our drinks (we had already left the cash on the table). Can't say we'll never come back because we were all just visiting from a cruise, but we lost over an hour of our free time here and never got anything to eat. After 4 days in Crete and having tried some of the best food the island has to offer we picked this venue for our lunch, since we were downtown. This place is a disgrace to the ''Greek gyros'' experience. Although it comes with bells and whistles on the outside, the food and service is simply tragic. They try to present modern versions of the classic greek pita dishes just to justify the overpriced mediocre food that is served by some rude personnel. My family and I went there yesterday, and soon after my son started having some serous stomach ache and my wife actually vomited after we returned to the hotel. I'm seriously thinking to make a complaint to the authorities. This was probably the worst choise we have made in Crete so far.

EDIT: We went there on Saturday 30th October and the place was up and running. The owner probably got mixed up and replied to my comment instead to someone else's. I would have posted a receipt with the date, but they didn't issue any when we paid, and that was the reason that I didn't actually made a formal complaint to the authorities. We couldn't prove that...

The waiter was very rude. We sat down at the table and told him that we wanted a mix grill. I had a choice of four types of meat. I told him what we wanted, and he kept insisting that what we were saying was not gyros meat. We try to tell him that yes, we know, and we don't want that meat. And he kept insisting and insisting, and I told him again and again that yes, we don't want gyros. Later, my boyfriend said he would like a beer and was looking for the beer page on the menu to tell him what type of beer he wanted because he didn't remember the name. at which point the waiter, nervous, took the menu from his hand and said in a sour tone, "Beer is on the beer page." I said that we understand it; it is crowded, and it is understandable. I asked for the bill, I said that we were paying with the card, and he almost took my phone and slammed it on the table so I could sit in a specific position because he felt like it. extremely naughty and aggressive. The food was average. neither good nor horrible. but the attitude of that waiter spoiled...
