Olive Green Hotel — Hotel in Municipality of Heraklion

Funny you say the first and 3rd nights were fully booked as the attached photo of a check I done on the second day of my stay shows you had availability on the 2nd and 3rd night of my stay but you kept us in the Lato Boutique, luckily you never went threw with just throwing a double mattress over a couple of the single beds in the triple room you first offered us. Additionally I take it the executives who visit Lato Boutique are manky and don’t care about what kind of room they get and the food they get for breakfast. Thanks for nothing Pinocchio. We’d never ever stay with a hotel group like yours again.

We booked Olive Green, but on arrival they said they were full and moved us to their sister hotel (Lato Boutique) which is in a quite downtown part of Heraklion and has poorer reviews than Olive Green. I asked them to double check Olive Green indicating we would take a lesser room having booked an Executive room. They said there was no rooms available. The next day they were advertising rooms at Olive Green again on Trivago.

They first offered us a triple room, but I said I preferred a double bed and they offered to put a double mattress on top of two of the single beds. I said I preferred an actual double bed. Reluctantly later they gave us a double room after a bit of persuasion and patience on my part.

The room was quiet and had a nice balcony overlooking the port, but was clearly old and in need of refurbishment.

The breakfast hot items were generally cold, but there was some good cold options and plenty of hot drinks.

The staff were pleasant and tried to help where they could, but I’m sure it’s an uphill struggle for them working in an rundown hotel in a rundown part...

The hotel is pretty clean and modern. We found the beds to be very comfy and the hotel's location was pretty convenient near the old town and port areas. The rooms are well appointed with a couple of chairs, a work area, a coffee/tea station, big TV and a large bathroom. There were enough plugs around the room and many switches with light settings to get it just right. We appreciated the balcony and the view outside but there were some cars that drove by with very loud music each night. The only significant complaint we had was that the bathroom shower leaked very easily in our rooms and got the floor wet near the toilet.The breakfast at the hotel was pretty good with a variety of Crete foods like cheese and pastries. There was fresh scrambled eggs and a very good sausage available as well. The breakfast also had a large variety of preserved fruits that paired well with the Greek yoghurt and included oranges, cherries, grapes and figs.We appreciated that the hotel had inexpensive parking nearby at Central Parking which was 7 Euros per day with unlimited in/out privileges as long as we got a stamp when we got in. The hotel also had a restaurant that offered room service and there was a popular cafe just across the street. I would have never expected to review this hotel with such a poor rate. When we checked-in, we noticed that the bed was not made properly, it was like someone had sit on it before our arrival. We then noticed that there were hair on the pillow and sheet. Simply disgusting, as the sheets had clearly not been changed and we had hair from previous guests. There are two scenarios: a) the hotel has a wrong cleaning policy or b) the hotel doesn’t check if rooms are actually cleaned by it’s cleaning department before guest’s arrival. Moreover, the room had a broken cabinet containing the fridge, which was falling apart. We then called the reception, which brought us some pillows for the night, as the hotel was fully booked. We had to sleep in a dirty bed and the day after nobody came to us for apologizing. As per the cabinet, a technician fixed it. During our stay, we had more issues. The room was not cleaned in the morning and we had to ask for cleaning it after our arrival form the beach. That happened twice without any “do not disturb” signal on from our side.
