Tazediko Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Heraklion

The place was just ok for lunch after some walk in the city. Prices were below average in Heraklion which was good. Tzatziki (2.5€) was good, baked potatoes (2.5€) were bland without taste or proper seasoning, not even olive oil on them. The feta cheese baked with spicy oil (4-5€) was a surprise actually and was quite good with a not so strong flavor, similar to mozzarella which I liked. Seafood risotto was quite a big dish that could be shared by 2 people, the dish was just ok, it had too much tomato on it which made it taste like it was a vegetable risotto if it wasn't for the mussels and small shrimps, it was advertised in the menu for 9€ but we were charged 9.9€ for it. They brought some watermelon and melon as a dessert. The oldest waiter was a bit 'strange' to say it in a way (the younger man seemed nice though) and when asking to pay with card he said they "prefer cash", then I said I prefer card, then I was told by him: "Service is not included" promting me to give a tip. Of course I didn't, since 1) They didn't earn it and 2) you don't need to remind people to give tips, if you earn them with a good service people will gladly...

The food this place offers is quite tasty, as my octopus was well grilled and seasoned, and served with salad and mashed potatoes, however I have a minor and a major complaint. The portion size of fried calamari that my father ordered was a bit small and also came far too late to the point I had to ask the waiter about when the calamari would be done cooking (I finished the octopus at that point). The knives they give you as part of your cutlery are flat edged saw knives which made cutting through the octopus impossible because the edges of the plate prevented me from doing so and small bits were still attached to the octopus after having to tear off the part I wanted to cut off, this isn't a problem with softer foods such...

Now I have time to review this restaurant and write down the scam I experienced here. On May 13th, I had my lunch here. The waiter #1 was nice and everything seemed to be well. Later, it seems waiter #1 had an argument with someone and left. When I finished, waiter #2 showed up and gave me the bill where all prices were increased by 40% at least. I was angry. Waiter #2 kept saying that they forgot to tell me that they have updated the prices. I refused twice and insisted to pay for the prices on the menu they showed me at the beginning. Then he unreluctantly gave me the new bill and I paid. After having left, I realized that in the new bill, they still added 10-20% more. This restaurant cheated me twice, which is...
