We had dinner here on Easter night, expecting a warm, festive experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences in recent memory.
To begin with, the service was unacceptable. The staff were visibly overwhelmed, uncoordinated, and, at times, openly arguing with each other in front of guests — which created an extremely tense and unprofessional atmosphere.
As for the food: we were served a single portion of lamb, a basic salad, and one egg — all supposedly part of a “holiday menu” at €35 per person. The lamb, the centerpiece of any Easter meal, was served cold. Cold lamb is not just unappetizing — it’s inedible. To make matters worse, it came without any side dish or accompaniment, making the plate feel incomplete and thoughtless.
The egg, which was presented as a meaningful gesture tied to tradition, was misleadingly described as part of the menu offering. In reality, it was the bare minimum — and seemed like an afterthought.
Across the entire tavern, you could clearly sense the same disappointment from other tables. No one seemed happy with what they received, and rightfully so. There was a complete lack of hospitality, care, and value.
Easter is a special time, and we had hoped for something equally special from this evening. Instead, we left feeling frustrated, disrespected, and frankly, taken advantage of. I cannot recommend this place based on this experience — not for holidays, and not even for a...
Read moreI have never actually wrote a bad review before but after we were recommended this place I feel I need to. The restaurant was full and clearly over capacity the staff could not cope. Yet they kept seating new large groups of people. We saw customers going into the restaurant to ask where they’re food was 3 times! We weren’t welcomed and had to seat ourselves, we weren’t given water, we had to ask for drinks and the waiter only asked my boyfriend what he would like, went off to get him a beer, came back and put it down. I had to call her back to ask if I could have a drink too. The guy came over with no menus and asked what we wanted. We opted for a set menu, the most expensive, which he said was very good. It was a small Greek salad and some grilled fish which came with nothing else. Third course was a glass of ouzo. No one checked on us, they forgot to give us the third course before giving us the bill. No one asked if we wanted another drink. Probably the worst meal...
Read moreI had a wonderful dinner experience at Annita Taverna on Hydra Island yesterday. Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and truly showcased the best of Greek cuisine. The octopus with feta and tomato was an absolute highlight – truly a "wow" dish that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting. We also thoroughly enjoyed the small fried anchovies and shrimp, which were perfectly cooked and bursting with fresh taste. The orzo pasta with octopus was another standout, rich in flavor and perfectly prepared. And to complement everything, the chorta (wild greens) with lemon was a simple yet delicious and refreshing side. Overall, it was a memorable meal with consistently delicious dishes in a lovely setting. I'd definitely recommend Annita Taverna to anyone visiting Hydra looking for an authentic and delicious Greek...
