One of the best restaurants we have eaten! This place is a real gem! How could it not be when the most feisty grandma is in charge of the kitchen! We met the owner, the sweetest person very personable! She told us about her 92 yr old mom who keeps everyone and everything in check and whom we had the pleasure of meeting! The food was very delicious and reasonably priced for being in one of the most beautiful islands! Because this restaurant is top notch it’s a good idea to make reservations.
I just had to add to the original review - we visited again this year and tried more of grandmas recipes let’s just say it’s hard to choose between all the incredibly tasty dishes! Got to see yiayia again and she looks better than ever- we absolutely loved her! The owner as well very friendly and with a great sense of humour. This time around we got to meet the family dog which gave us such a laugh -he was looking to snack from the tables but he was unaware of the “do not feed me I’m on a diet” sign the owner has on him 😂 If you do not eat here you will be doing yourself a...
Read moreThe restaurant is just incredible: the daily fresh food made by the 88 years old very sympathic mother is very tasty. Lots of possibilities to choose on the menu. Served by a staff that is extremely friendly. Always time for a chat. About everything. You learn a lot while eating in a very very beautiful place in the center of the lovely port but never too crowded. Eating while watching the sunset is fantastic. Once in a lifetime experience. You do not need to make a reservation although do not come after 9.30h pm, because you could be waiting. But those very lovely, sympathic family and staff will help in any way they can. We went half of the 14 days there having diner. Never disappointed. Always very very satisfied. Also price quality ratio very good. We will definitely go back next year. And may be 3 weeks in September. Han & Thea...
Read moreAstonished to find many of the restaurants at the port offer very western food, burgers, pizza, etc... Not Niato's. What a welcome treat to know the owner's mother is the cook and that experience pays off in taste. The Tzatziki with fresh grilled pita and the Greek olives was a great start. The Dolmadakia Giaourtlou (Vine leaves stuffed with beef in a yoghurt sauce was quintessential Greek flavor. The Pork stew in lemon sauce was tender and tasty. Both the fresh lemon juice and lemon ice tea tasted more of the western style which we welcomed as these drinks come in a variety of flavors throughout Greece. We capped the evening with a small bottle of Ouzo for two, just the right amount. Service was pleasant and the atmosphere of the harbor and people watching was relaxing. Niato on the isle of Hydra will...
