Firstly, the good things:|| ||Hydra is just lovely and the location was pretty good, just a short walk from the main street but far enough to be quiet. There weren't too many steps to climb which for Hydra is very important because there are no cars or bikes or any other means of transport (except for donkeys).. ||Free wi-fi||TV and mini fridge working.||Suprisingly comfortable mattress and pillow.||||Now for the minuses:||||I explained on the phone that we were 3 grown women. We asked for a triple room and were given a room on the lower (ground) floor because we were told that that's the only one available with 3 single beds. ||The room was so tiny that we had to take turns walking in the space between the beds to reach the wc or the door. There was no balcony or window - only the front door. There was a narrow porch in front of this row of rooms, however, there were three HUGE a/c units there producing so much heat and noice that it was impossible to stand there for a minute. Not that we would want to, since the laundry was always hanging there to dry. The room it self was smelly and the light poor.||||You couldn't have fresh air because there was only one door which had to be kept closed (for obvious reasons). The only thing one could do is lock themselves in and turn on the a/c. I've never seen this anywhere in Greece before. ||||The bathroom was half decent - a shower with no shower curtain and only moderately clean. ||||Luckily we only stayed for 1 night otherwise 3 people wouldn't be able to survive in this. ||||The price we were charged for this was outrageous by any standards. ||||I read better reviews of the upper floors - we didn't see them. They may be better.||||When we talked to the owner about all this, she replied that she thought we would be 3 young girls and wouldn't be too demanding. She would still have charged the full rate, though! How's that for an excuse? ||||Anyway, Hydra is very picturesque and the water is lovely -eventhough there are no beaches. ||||It's worth visiting - but book early and avoid this...
Read moreThe worst place I ever stayed in Hydra!
I am going to Hydra the last 15 years every year and never had such an experience. It’s hard to understand how some of the comments describe this place as “value for money”. We booked a room for 3 people and when we saw the room we were shocked. This was a room for 2people max. There was no much space to have your luggages and also there wasn’t an outdoor area to sit if you wanted to chill. The price was too high for such a small room. You can rent a whole flat with kitchen in this price.
The worst part of our experience was that when we arrived they told us that the air-con was broken. These things can happen and we weren’t annoyed as we understood that they were trying to fix it. The owner was causing so much of stress to us as she was keep telling us about her problem and all the details about the technician and the difficulties she is facing..when we arrived she told us to leave and find something else as she couldn’t know when it will be ready. Hydra is such a small island and you cannot easily find something else last minute. They had more rooms available in this place but they didn’t want to change their plan with the future customers. At the end they gave us 2 other rooms to sleep the first night until they fix the issue. The second day they woke us up at 10am - they were opening our doors and we were naked and they were so rude asking us to leave the rooms so they can prepare them for the next customers. We had no rooms the second day as they were trying to fix the aircon and we got in our room around 8pm. It was an organization disaster and the customer service so poor - they treated us like we were friends and not customers.
It was the worst experience ever! They don’t know how to treat customers and they are so rude! Never had to experience this in my life.
The location is good but definitely not the only place with a...
Read moreA typically small room which was adequate for our recent 3 night stay when my wife and I attended a friends wedding. ||||Our room was so small in fact, there was no place (except for the bed) where you were able to lay your suitcase flat and we had a daily puzzle of shifting our cases around the room as we wrestled with access to the bathroom, wardrobe and dressing table. I found the years of playing 'Twister' when I was younger surprisingly beneficial, contorting my body around furniture obstacles! Still, the view from tight balcony is what it was all about.||||I was a little concerned with the visibility of the owner once we'd checked in. The lady owns a gift shop nearby but proved a little of an enigma when we asked for our passports to be returned. I don't think there was anything too sinister as we got the impression that they were held as deposit until we paid for our room but this was never explained to us and the owner's English isn't very good. Returning to our room about 6pm or so on our final night (our ferry left the next morning at 7pm) we were unable to find someone to help us - as the owner was 'out' - until 9;30pm, which was a worry and inconvenience.||||My advice would be to pay as soon as possible in order to have your...
