Lulus looked like a good option for homemade, family style cooking in Idra. We were looking for a change from the more upmarket restaurants and bars.
We ordered beef in tomato sauce a serve of fried calamari an fried zucchini/courgette. The food was served promptly and was well cooked though it could have seasoned more - a common issue throughout Greece. Portions were acceptable but for the price I would have liked a little more.
The issue with Lulus is pride, service and atmosphere. It's a family business run by a husband and wife who just give off a very tired vibe. The shuffle between tables, with little interest and food iserved with a bang on the table not a smile.
Simply put there is no love or pride in what they are doing, and if there is it unfortunately does not show. Instead of being welcomed into someone's house for a delicious meal, you feel like you're just a customer helping to pay the bills.
Would it hurt to put on some Greek music, smile and make people feel welcome and speak lovingly off your food and customers. These simple things could turn Lulus into a restaurant worth trying twice but until then I can only give it a three-star...
Read moreTerrible. I ordered steamed mussels and what I was served was beyond expectations. A sad and greyed plate of mussels lying in lemony olive oil sprinkled with origan. I was still hoping that the taste could overcome the appearances. Yet, the plate contained a mix of fresh and unfrozen mussels. The unfrozen mussels color was gray and the texture was falling apart as if it was overcooked, compared to fresh mussels which are more colorful and a little bit chewy. After asking her, she still kept saying that mussels were fresh and not frozen. Look at the picture, it's so obvious... I could have given a few points for the service but I chose not to as customer service is bad as well. The old lady, who seems to be owner, brought the note and didn't give us some time to understand it while stressing us to give the credit card and pay. We insisted three times to ask her the meaning of naming (apparently σαλάτες means French fries 🤡) until she eventually explained. I don't believe that someone should pay until understanding what was charged. All in all, I'm not...
Read moreWorst place In 20 some years of eating in Greek taverna’s. Grumpy old man loudly shouting at me wanting to know if I was eating. Brought White wine not Red which I had ordered and the whole experience went downhill from there. I stayed because I wished to know if I had got the wrong impression but no. The Feta was over cooked, some food should be eaten cold my other food order came out of the chiller so was too cold to eat. Lulu eventually came and berated me for ordering in 1/4 litre jugs. I only wanted one but it took so long for my meal to arrive. I ordered 2 and eventually a third which made me unpopular. It was an empty place when I arrived and when I left it was busy. The couple next to me waited around 10 minutes to get the table set and a further 10 for their drinks to arrive. When you pay good money one expects better than this. Other places on the island gave me better service and food. 1 star for managing to get food on the table after 60...
