Reservation Staff were very friendly and warm over the phone. Making a reservation was straightforward and they managed to get us a seating on the same day only 2 hours prior to dinner.
Service We had one waiter and the owner both ask us where we were from. Upon telling them we were from Australia, we were hit with the stereotypical ‘No where are you really from’. We had another waiter who provided excellent service. He also asked us where we were from, but he showed genuine interest in Australia, rather than not accepting our response because of our ethnicity like the owner had.
Food Octopus was tender and grilled perfectly, however the portion was tiny for the price (19 euro) as compared to what you get at other restaurants across Milos. The texture of the calamarata pasta was perfectly al dente, however the mussels were overcooked and the dish lacked enough bisque sauce. As a result the pasta was lacking in flavour and was quite dry.
When the owner asked how the meal was we told him the pasta was a bit dry and it was clear he was not receptive of the feedback. Instead he tried to educate us on how pasta should be, stating that if we think it should be like soup it should not. He discredited our opinion based on his cultural bias towards us. This may have been an isolated incident with the specific serving of food we received and we understand this can happen, but the owners negative reaction to our feedback was disappointing.
Ambience Excellent views and a very charming setting amongst an alleyway looking over the island.
Overall While the ambience is good, the food is subpar especially for the price. The owners ego and lack of self awareness also left us with a poor experience, especially when there is another restaurant next door that provides better food and service with the same ambience.
PS: The owner has a history of accusing negative reviews to be fake, so I have attached photos as proof this...
Read moreWe came to eat at Barriello for our last night in Milos due to its great reviews and unfortunately was met with disappointment. We made a reservation couple of hours before hand and they were able to fit us in for a 9pm seating.
I was really looking forward to this meal as we were eating at the restaurant next door few nights before and was intrigued by their signature cheesecake appetiser (I also saw this from Lost LeBlanc’s video).
I am a huge cheesecake fan usually but this was not an interpretation I could understand. The cheesecake texture was crumbly and dry, along with the dry crumble at the bottom which had no variation. The berries compote was too sour and overall lacks harmony.
The second dish we had, the octopus was the best dish by far. It was tender and flavourful, however the €19 price tag for that portion size was simply not worth it. It took us exactly 4 bites to finish the octopus while similar restaurants in Milos will have much bigger portions at the same price point.
The main we ordered was their Calamrata Pasta. It was dry, bland, and the seafood was overcooked. When the owner came around to ask us how the food was, we told him that it was a bit dry but he then began to tell us that this is meant to be dry and that it shouldn’t be like soup which we felt might have been a cultural bias that he had towards us (we’re Asians).
The first waiter we interacted with and the gentleman who served our dishes were delightful, and the setting of the restaurant is nice which is why I’m giving it a 2 star instead of 1 star rating.
In short, I wouldn’t recommend this place or coming back here. Don’t let the high ratings fool you...

When we spoke to the host at the front he told us the restaurant required reservations, but said that if we wanted to drink a cocktail while we waited we would be put on a waitlist, so we said sure.
We were escorted to an area by another man and given a drink menu and told that someone would come and take our drink order. We waited nearly 15 minutes and no one came to take our drink order. We saw another couple come over to the area and they had beverages, I asked if they got them inside and the guy said yes. So I went inside and grabbed drinks.
We sat and had a chat with a couple. Then nearly 2 hours passed. During this time I saw more people told they’d have to wait because they didnt have reservations. And then the hosts came over and sat group after group of people. During this time others that were also waiting were approached and ordered drinks and were delivered these drinks sitting right in front of us.
The couple ended up leaving, and at this point my girlfriend was so bothered she decided she wanted to approach the host and ask if we would be seated herself. She was told that there was nothing that could be done because these tables were reserved. Meanwhile for over 40 minutes there were 3 or more tables for 2 that were open. And were never filled.
After she approached the host I knew she was bothered so we ended up leaving. We were treated differently on the night of my girlfriends birthday. This is not an authentic Greek establishment. If you want delicious Greek food without dealing with this go to the restaurant up the way that has live music and a cocktail...
