Disappointing experience — €50 just for the table?
I had high hopes for this restaurant, especially since I booked it two weeks in advance to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Unfortunately, what could have been a memorable evening ended with frustration and disappointment.
When making the reservation through the platform, I was given the option between a standard table and a balcony table. I chose the terrace, assuming it would offer a nicer setting for a special occasion. At the time of booking, there was no clear mention of any extra charge. Only after completing the reservation did I receive a confirmation email stating that terrace tables carry a €50 supplement, simply for being seated in that area.
My mistake, perhaps, for not catching that detail in the fine print — I assumed it was a guarantee or deposit, as is common practice in many restaurants.
To my surprise, when the bill arrived, this amount was not deducted from the total. I asked about it and was told the €50 is charged exclusively for the table, on top of the full price of the dinner. I have dined in numerous high-end restaurants, including several Michelin-starred ones (such as DiverXO), and I have never seen a separate fee charged just to sit at a certain table. It feels like an abusive and misleading practice.
To be fair, the service was polite (though slightly slow at times), the food was good, and the views were beautiful. However, the entire evening was overshadowed by this unpleasant surprise at the end.
I had also mentioned in the booking comments that we were celebrating a birthday. Given the nature of the occasion — and especially considering the extra €50 charge — it would have been a thoughtful gesture to offer some kind of detail or acknowledgment. Unfortunately, there was none.
As someone who also works in the hospitality industry and owns a business, I find it unthinkable to charge customers an additional fee just for the location of their table. Frankly, if I paid for the table, I should have been able to take it home — maybe leave the chairs behind.
This is a sad and deceptive policy that leaves a bitter aftertaste, no matter how good...
Read moreI made reservation 1.5 months ago. And in the notes section I kindly asked about a first row to see the view because this vacation was our first vacation with my husband after very difficult days because of my heart surgeries. Since it is not a birthday or wedding anniversary I thought that this would be enough. And in the reply e mail sent by the restaurant it was not mentioned that It was a first come first serve restaurant. The server lady seated us in the back of the balcony and my husband couldnt see the supposed view. I asked her why we are seated like this she said this is first come first serve place. And we said yes and sit that table. In the meantime I saw that there is a reserved sign in a table for 4 people in front of us. And nobody arrived there for an hour. Than the server took 2 plates ( that reservation seemed to be cancelled) and some other 2 person was seated to that table which has a much nicer view. Anyways I wouldnt mention any complaints if the food was good. I was travelling greece for more than 20 years. Visited a lot of cities islands. And this was the first place I saw that the veins of the shrimps are not cleaned so I needed to clean them before I ate. (We ate couscus with 4 shrimps on top. ) They worked hard about the greek salad like they put some feta mousse and a tomatoe marmelade. There is a lot of water ( not juice of tomatoes etc it is clear water) on the bottom of the plate for me which was a sign that the tomatoes or other vegetables may not be dried well after they were washed. And there was no taste of olive oil and you couldnt even see the oil droplets. This placed is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant. I hope they get this feedback seriously and get better soon. This is my vacation. And I thought I deserved more especially when I...
Read moreChef Nikos and his wonderful staff treated us like family. We spent 4 nights in Milos (staying in the Tripiti neighborhood, mere steps from where the restaurant is located) and ate twice at OKTO, much to my happiness. The dinner I had here was ultimately my favorite meal in Milos. This is a great choice for a more upscale dining experience, such as a date night or anniversary meal. Excellent food ✅, warm service ✅, and incredible views ✅.
I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, because the restaurant was fully booked with a line spilling into the street each evening we walked past. Do not expect to walk in and dine without a reservation. (If you check out the photos of their incredible sunset cliff view, you'll understand why tourists flock here. Please be polite and patient as you wait; the outdoor tables are located mere inches from tables owned by Barriello, another popular restaurant on the island.) The food speaks for itself: my favorite dish was the grilled octopus over fava puree (LOVE!) and we had to try all three of their desserts, each of them excellent. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. A kind young man was our server and helped us select our wine pairing; the lady hostess with her lovely smile was the epitome of warmth; and Chef Nikos himself is ever-present and monitoring things from the kitchen door. I gave my partner the better seat to watch the sunset during dinner, but frankly her enjoying the views just gave me more time to eat! Win-win. When we return to Milos in the future, I look forward to returning to OKTO as their guest once more....
