We travel to Greece every summer from New York City and have eaten food all over the country. After just our first few bites we agreed that the pastries we ordered at Ar&Ko were the best we have ever had in Greece and on par with our favorite spots in NYC (La Bicyclette, Miolin, and Winner).
We ordered a vanilla cream croissant and a bacon and cheese croissant. The pastry itself was flaky on the outside and so incredibly soft on the inside, and the flavors were spot on indicating expert level craftsmanship. We stayed in Nafplio for 3 days and made sure to come back every morning.
The owners are a lovely couple. Husband, Kosta is trained in French techniques and has perfected using Greek products to craft amazing pastries that you can’t find anywhere else in Greece. Wife, Argiri runs the front of house operations to ensure customers have a great experience alongside the rest of their warm and friendly staff. They work tirelessly each day, and you can feel the love they have for what they do. We had the pleasure of speaking to both of them and they were kind enough to provide recommendations for the next leg of our trip which was in Monemvasia.
“Highly recommend” is an understatement.

My partner has a severe nut allergy, and the staff were so kind and went through descriptions of each item - and went so far as to make a treat specifically without the nut topping! - so that we could enjoy with total peace of mind. We shared a breakfast omelette croissant & strawberry pastry, with filter coffees - everything was so, so tasty and flavourful (even the filter coffee!) for 20 euro. Well worth it.
The premises are clean, very Instagram-able and modern. Wonderful location right off a park and 3 minutes from the bus station, close to the National Gallery annex, and other shopping/attractions. All of the staff we interacted with were friendly and warm. Great first stop in Nafplio, and we will be going back!
It got very busy by around 10:45am, so go early before they run...

The food was absolutely excellent, capturing the rich flavors and culinary expertise one expects. What made the experience even more delightful was the friendly service; it truly felt like a warm embrace, much like the overall hospitality spirit found across Greece. Additionally, the cleanliness of the establishment was impeccable, a standard that seems to be a common thread in Greek locales.
This wonderful experience starkly contrasts with some of my visits to places in Western Europe, where the interactions often felt colder, mirroring the often grey weather. The warmth and friendliness encountered here, both in service and atmosphere, are a refreshing change, emphasizing the unique charm and high standards that Greece...
