There are many highly rated restaurants along the road here, I took a chance on this one one night and managed to find the worst meal I have had in Greece.
One meal I had was pork stewed in peppers and onions. It was effectively a curry and it was actually very well seasoned. Unfortunately it was pre-made and not properly re-heated. Some of the pieces of pork were warm, some were actually fridge cold. This is like a dish that came out of the fridge (or freezer), went into a microwave for two minutes, and was then dumped into a serving dish. Now I can understand that a curry may be pre-cooked, it takes hours to stew a curry just right, but if you do so then you need to properly re-heat it when it is ordered. If it is in the fridge get it into a small pot, hit it with heat on the stove, stir often to ensure it does not burn to the bottom, get it steaming back to a low boil temperature, once there and starting to have the juices flowing again pour into the serving dish, garnish if desired, and serve hot! I still ate this dish because to ne perfectly honest I find it as much of a bother to have to ask a server to send a dish back to the kitchen for another munute in the microwave.
The "crispy" mussels were gross. Pre-frozen mussles with no flavor, deep fried, and smothered with a sweet honey mustard sauce almost exactly the same sauce you get with chicken nuggets from a certain fast food chain...
The fried potatoes were just bland despite the mass of stuff they dumped on them. Seasoning (read salt) fried potatoes the instant they come out of a fryer is a must. If you are doing oregeno on them as well add that along with the salt immediately (for ease mortal and pestal some oregano, mix it with salt, put them both into a shaker to add to fresh chips right out of the fryer. The oregano flavour will merge a bit into the salt).
I left half of the food from this place behind, paid my bill, immediately went to a restaurant down the block, and ate two...
Read moreThis place is worth making a trip to nafplio for alone. For the record, I am vegan and my friend is vegetarian, so we were only able to eat the appetizers. However this is irrelevant, because there’s truly only one dish that matters. The grilled oyster mushrooms in balsamic vinegar reduction are heaven on this earth. Each bite is a new experience in texture: chew from the stem, juice from the perfectly cooked mushrooms, and feathery softness from the cap. When I took a bite of the cap it felt as if the whole mushroom would lift up and fly away in my mouth. And the flavor! The mushroom was meaty and rich, with a perfectly smoky taste from the light char of the grill. And I have yet to even mention the balsamic! Lemony, buttery and smooth, rich with flavor but not too strong. It perfectly complimented the mushrooms to an extent that didn’t feel possible in food crafted by mere humans. In the end, we ordered three plates (with a fourth the following day) and each one was perfect. Other positives about this incredible restaurant: the atmosphere is lively and the artwork is both fun and beautiful. In the womans bathroom were many amenities: period products (the first I’ve seen in a Greek bathroom), lint roller, painkillers, and toothpicks. The service was also wonderful! Our waiter was kind and attentive, and happy to joke with us about the truly absurd amount of mushrooms we were ordering. Overall incredible vibes and...
Read moreGreat atmosphere with great food and drinks. The tavern has warm look, outdoor seating, open kitchen and fast service. Do not expect 29 varieties of whiskey, 10 herbal gins and a Michelin tourist restaurant. Instead, you get a great Greek taverna with tsipouro, ouzo and fantastic food.
I tried 7 appetizers and all were great taste and fresh, whether it was grilled feta with pepper, cheese with honey, grilled mushrooms, drunken chicken, meatballs. I was mostly happy to finally come across a place that makes in the winter traditional Greek rakomelo.
I was very happy here and since I saw that the place was fully packed, both inside and outside, obviously many other visitors too. The prices are very, very reasonable and the quality is well above...
