Captain's Corner — Restaurant in Municipality of Thira

One of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had! This family-run taverna in Santorini truly stole our hearts. We’ve tried seafood in many countries around the world, but the fried squid here was by far the best we’ve ever had — incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked.

I had not really liked moussaka before, even after trying it in other parts of Greece, but here it was absolutely outstanding. Without a doubt, the most delicious moussaka I’ve ever eaten. I completely fell in love with this dish.

The staff is amazing — so warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. George is a kind and generous host, and it was clear to us that this is a true family business with a beautiful history. The rest of the team were just as wonderful — they remembered us, chatted with us, and made us feel truly at home.

One evening, we also saw a lovely elderly man bringing small glasses of homemade liqueur to the tables. His portrait is displayed in the restaurant — we believe he is George’s father or grandfather. That small moment made the whole experience feel even more special and authentic.

We highly recommend this place — the food is fantastic, and the atmosphere feels like you’re visiting longtime friends.

The restaurant makes a great first impression – the interior is decorated in a pleasant Greek style, with classic blue and white elements that create a fresh and relaxed atmosphere. Combined with the family-run feel of the place, it offers a cozy and welcoming vibe, which is definitely one of its strengths.

However, the overall experience is diminished by an unbalanced approach from the staff. While their intention to be helpful is appreciated, the constant hovering and physical closeness of the waiters feels intrusive. Attempts at cheesy humor may not appeal to everyone – especially for guests seeking a more peaceful dining experience.

As for the food, unfortunately, the main dish was a letdown. The grilled protein was overcooked in parts and only mildly seasoned. Salads lacked depth and needed more thoughtful preparation beyond just a splash of olive oil. In contrast, the restaurant puts effort into little gestures like complimentary rakija shots during the meal and a small dessert at the end – which, while nice, come across as distractions from the poorly prepared (i.e. overcooked) main course.

If the same care and attention were given to the cooking and seasoning of the food as to the extras, the overall dining experience would be much more satisfying. Or maybe the cook...

Captain's Corner — Greek hospitality and flavor at its best! 🇬🇷

During our vacation on Santorini, we visited Captain’s Corner many times with our family — and every visit was a great experience. The place has a warm, homely atmosphere, with traditional Greek music playing and a friendly, welcoming staff that makes you feel right at home.

🍽️ The food was always fresh and delicious, with a beautiful presentation: – the tomato soup was absolutely amazing — rich, flavorful, and full of Greek taste, – we also had a chicken skewer dish (we can’t recall the exact name, but it was perfectly cooked and very tender), – our son especially enjoyed the Margherita pizza and the ice cream — he even asked to come back just for that!

In the evening, the atmosphere is magical — cozy tables, soft lights, a gentle breeze, and music that completes the Greek island vibe.
