AVOID. There are plenty of other restaurants in this area that are better in terms of taste, price, and experience. The man who grabs tourists from the street here is persistent and disrespectful. I had to ask three times, in a row, to please have a moment with my friends so we could discuss where we wanted to eat. He does not want you to have the chance to decide otherwise, and that would never happen at a good quality restaurant. He doesn't understand hospitality and actually jumped into our conversation, piggybacking off of something I had said to my friends. When I resorted to speaking Italian, he said "I know Spanish, too!" The first time we walked past this place, he tried engaging us by shouting, "Americans! I bet you are both Americans! Yes?" All of this makes for a very poor impression, he is way too emotional and needs to learn when to back off. Maybe a new person for this job would be better?
Anyway, we decided to give the place a try, although it was full of tourists that the front man had bothered into coming in. "Authentic, not a tourist trap!" we were told... The food was less than satisfactory. My friend and I were not pleased with the lack of flavor from the bolognese and moussaka, whereas the moussaka at another restaurant nearby was phenomenal. Our other guests had a gyro and the calamari, which were both alright. My zuppa di pesce was disappointing in terms of flavor, as was the garlic bread. The zuppa di pesce was oddly sudzy and the bread it came with was rock solid. I can only recommend the appetizer dumplings with jam because they were flavorful. That is the only thing that was worth its price. We were told that "all the food is made fresh here," but you can be the judge of that if you visit.
Lastly, if you are a wine drinker, I recommend trying something other than the house red. Maybe one of their bottles? In summary, you're better off trying Black Stone, Amaltheia, or Poco Loco on that street, we went back to these places for delicious food at a good price with kind staff. I just can't justify giving Meli & Thymari your business after our experience. My friend was uncomfortable even walking past the restaurant again thinking that the man would shout at us...
Read moreDON’T COME HERE. A waiter (tanned with big brows) lured us into his restaurant by saying he would make a price for us for the mix grill fish for 50€ instead of 55€, they would offer the drinks and if we didn’t like the food, we wouldn’t have to pay. When we asked for the bill, we said we didn’t really like the food and we didn’t even finish their plate. Two other waiters came in very aggressively, saying that the first waiter never said it would be free, so they lied to make us come!! Moreover, the waiter with grey hair who tried to hit my wife to make her silent!!! This is totally unacceptable behavior. At the end, they tried to charge us 86€ for everything, when they first said it would be 50€ with free drinks, this is a SCAM. My wife was shaking, crying and was scared of the waiter who tried to hit her, one of the waitress had to come in to calm her and the situation, so thank you to her, otherwise we wouldn’t know what would’ve happen. The only star we’re giving is for her.
Please don’t come here if you want to enjoy your trip in Greece, this restaurant is not representative of how beautiful this country is, and how Greek...
Read moreNot authentic! We actually wanted to eat at another restaurant, but unfortunately it was full. A guy was out on the street trying to pull tourists in – never a good sign. But since we were a bit stressed with our flight, and he told us his wife cooks authentic food, we decided to give it a try. Two tourists from the UK were just leaving and said the food was great. So we thought, okay, let’s try it.
Honestly, I don’t understand how the ratings here come about. It seems many people don’t really know what authentic Greek food tastes like – or maybe a lot of UK and US visitors simply lack that food experience.
The tzatziki came in a very small portion, made with cheap olive oil. The garlic bread was six huge slices – way too much. The mixed grill platter was just average, very standard grilled flavor, nothing authentic or high-quality, but not terrible either. Prices, of course, were on the higher side because it’s a tourist area.
Overall, the food was okay but far from authentic. I would recommend everyone to find a truly authentic place via TripAdvisor or by local recommendation – and make sure to...
