If you are ready to sacrifice for the view, then the hotel will be perfect for you. By sacrifice I mean basic standards that all rooms of any hotel should be provided with, regardless of what you pay for it. We paid a pretty penny per night and arrived to a unclean room, half working equipment and poor service. My husband and I tried to call weeks ahead of time and never got a answer because we learned upon arrival that no one is manning the reception desk at any point in the day. We arrived at 8 am because that's when our flight got in. We went down the side of the cliff, for 30-40 min before we found the hotel and when we arrived no one was there. Finally the cleaning lady who watched us look for a person for the 30-40 minutes, got the "manager". Instead of welcoming us, he yelled at us that we cannot check into until 2, so it was our problem that we were earlier. Then he told us to come back at 2 because they needed time to clean. This, was true sadly because the hot tubs for every room had green/yellow old, bug filled water in it and gave off a TERRIBLE first impression of cleanliness. Then he asked if we wanted to leave our bags, but we refused because he wanted to leave them in the open restaurant that they had and not a secure location in the hotel. When we came back and we're allowed to finally enter a room, the shower was nasty. It had a hole in the back that allowed ants to constantly come in and there was a line of dirt, that literally moved around the shower as soon as I turned it on, to spray the ants. They did come to clean this, but after telling me I wasn't allowed to be there until check in time, so that cleaning could be done, I expected to come back to a very clean room. The hot tub was not clean at all. They kept asking us " is everything good now?" And we literally had to ask them to clean the hot tub. They said it would be clean before the end of the day. We asked for it to be cleaned quickly because we paid for it and wanted to use it, however we did give them till the end of the night to complete the cleaning. The young man cleaned out the dirt and bugs, but left the water because it had chlorine in it and he claimed it had just been filled a few days prior. The hot tub did not work properly. We had to let it run for the day and night before it got "hot", therefore we couldn't even use it the first night. Then when I commented on this issue the next morning, since it took that long to get hot, the only resolution I was given was "at least you can use it tonight, now that it's warm". I paid for two nights but was only allowed to use it one night; due to this issue. Breakfast is sample, you will not get enough to feel good. So be prepared to either order more food from them or go some place else. If you need anything before 9am and after 9pm you will not be helped, this includes check out services. On top of all this, we were charged 3 weeks before our trip (convienetly on a day that the exchange rate was higher then it had been for weeks). The charge was not under the hotel name or any thing you can look up (because it is under the managers personal name) so you won't know it is them who charged you. We had to call and report fruad on our account because even though we guessed it was the hotel, they NEVER answered the phone so we could not confirm this until we were already in Greece and received a possible cancellation email. Then when we were charged, it was refunded and then charged again, oh so happendly on a day that again the exchange rate was higher. So,this charged was played around with on our bank account for weeks. Long story short, the view is beautiful, but you will sacrifice things such as good service, a clean room and proper communication for that view. Also, just a tip try to find someone who knows the hotel before climb down the cliff because the sign is old, rusted and small.

Read moreThere are an increasing number of iconic tourist hotspots around the World that are now suffering from mass adoration; Amsterdam, Venice, etc. Unfortunately Santorini must be near the top of the list. Prepare yourself for wall to wall crowds. But I digress. ||When you think of Santorini, you see picturesque cliff top views of cruise liners in the Aegean Sea, cute houses, restaurants and bars, cascading up precipitous slopes and magic sunsets. Some hotels and apartments in Santorini think that if they provide this view, and many do, that they can claim to be luxurious. The Kratiras View Luxury Suites fall into this category. They definitely have the luxurious views but that is where luxury ends. We did have one of the cheapest rooms without a private pool. It is either a private pool or no pool. The management seem to think the view will compensate for everything so why bother about the petty details like the door handle is on the table when you arrive, the key to the safe doesn’t work, the hairdryer falls apart, the table lamp doesn’t work, the air conditioning unit is old and barely keeps the day time heat at bay (we hate to think what it was like during the recent 40 degree heatwave.) The view also comes at a price. Between 2pm and 7pm you will need to keep the suite curtains fully closed to block out the heat and glare of the Western Sun because there is no effective shade.||The ‘suites’ themselves (really a room) are very small and compact with a double bed pressed against a wall. Small desk and chair, fridge, small table and 2 chairs, although a table and chairs are also an available on the small patio. The two adjacent suites are open to your patio so there is absolutely no privacy in your room. Most suites have very small pools or spas, the middle ones on the upper two floors have neither. So if you want a pool, make sure you request one, but remember that Western sun, you may get boiled rather than cooled. An evening submersion with a glass of wine might work. ||The bathroom is very cramped with an open shower so a challenge to keep the water inside. Toiletries are provided and the towels are nice, thick and clean. So works but a bit small.||So are there any positives other than the majestic views. The management staff are very friendly and obliging, so if you want a kettle and couple of cups, a couple of sun loungers on your patio, to get some of those malfunctioning items fixed, they are very prompt to act. The breakfast on the “terrace with a view” was fine; nice bread and jams, yoghurt and fruit, bacon and egg or an omelette, fruit juice. Although we found the breakfast timing at 9.30 to 11.00 am painfully late. Like most of the hotels and apartments in Santorini, access is a challenge. Cobbled and uneven paths, steps, and mainly uphill. The hotel will take your main luggage to the local bus stop which is a great service. ||In terms of getting to and from the airport, we recommend the local bus (an air conditioned coach) for EUR 1.60 (taxi about EUR 20+) which leaves the airport at 10 past the hour and leaves the Central Bus Station on the hour after 10.00 a.m., with additional services in the early morning at 6.00; 7.15, 8.30 and 9.15. Very comfortable and seems to be reliable in terms of time. ||One final point, if you are looking for the cheapest supermarket where the locals shop, turn left at the Bus Terminal rather than follow the crowds up the hill or to the right, about 400M. Definitely worth the walk, everything is at local prices, e.g., 4 Amstel beers cost EUR 4.80 rather then EUR 8.90 in one of the smaller markets in the tourist area.||So in summary, if we leave out the luxury, Krataris View Suites, has a fabulous location, obliging staff, a nice breakfast, acceptable rooms if a bit on the small side, and with a bit more management attention to detail could qualify for a...
