The Hungry Donkey restaurant was an absolutely terrible experience in terms of table service. I had to call for service three times just to place our order, yet the waiter deliberately ignored us and continued staying behind the counter or cleaning other tables. The restaurant is so small that there’s no way he didn’t hear us.
Frustrated, I decided not to order and left on the spot. Despite asking us to come and sit initially, he didn’t even attempt to ask us to stay or address the situation. Meanwhile, other tables were receiving proper service. It felt very prejudiced and unfair. This experience doesn’t even deserve one star.
Edit after owner's response - Dear Hungry Donkey Team,
Thank you for your response, but I must reiterate that there is no confusion regarding the restaurant. We visited your establishment this week in the afternoon, and the experience I described is accurate.
To clarify further, we saw an elderly couple arrive after us. The attendant not only gave them menus but also set up their table, provided cutlery, and ensured they were comfortable. In contrast, we were simply handed our menus and left to wait. We decided on our order very quickly, but even after he finished setting their table, we tried multiple times to get his attention, only to be deliberately ignored.
I understand if the situation were self-service, but since your restaurant is not, the lack of attention and such behavior from your staff was not expected. The menu looked promising, and we were excited to try your food, but the poor service forced us to leave and dine at Kookoo Bar Restaurant instead, where we received excellent service.
I encourage you to check your cameras again, you’ll see exactly what happened. I stand by my review as an honest reflection of our experience and hope you take this feedback...
Read moreI ordered the pineapple, coconut and banana smoothie however it tasted like water when received. I shared this politely and the waiter confirmed it was pre-made with the addition of water. I requested for a change to orange juice, he confirmed he had to receive the ok from his manager.
This was granted however I was told i had to pay the initial smoothie rather than juice price. In his words “I should have been charged for both”.
Nice bar however attitude and approach on my visit stunk. I will not return or recommend.
In response to managers response: Thank you. However I was no way disrespectful towards your employee. This is an absolute lie!
I appreciate the cost it is to you however I was polite in my request and would have been fine if you declined my request. At payment, I asked about the price as I was expecting to be charged for the juice only. Your employee explained and I paid.
Kindly sir, it is unfair to lie about someone's behaviour. Feel free to check your security cameras.
I wish you...
Read moreThe Hungry Donkey was our breakfast spot ALL 4 mornings in Oia. Each day my group of 6 tried a new dish and we loved all of them. From the crepes, to the power bowl, chicken club to the burger , this food and service was TOP NOTCH. I had orange juice in 4 other places before Hungry Donkey and theirs was THE best. The cappuccinos were delicious and had my group happy all day. The owner Stavros was absolutely amazing. He is so down to earth, kind, attentive, thoughtful, honest. He spoke to us each morning like we were friends. I would invite him into my own home to stay in the US if he ever comes- that’s how great this guy was. The cook was the same all 4 mornings and you could tell he was a master!! The food was served QUICK and HOT , and again DELICIOUS every single time. The other staff were just as great, they were quick and attentive with each thing from setting and clearing the table, to getting you anything you asked for. I would recommend Hungry Donkey to anyone in the area. You...
