A must go on Santorini. Small museum housed in a former Captain's house that was unfortunately destroyed by an earthquake. Restoration has been sponsored by two brothers (I think was Nomicos family) who the curator told us were ship Captain/owners. Very informative and clearly demonstrates why these islands played such a historic role in marine commerce and set the formation of the Greeks becoming some of the biggest modern day shipping companies in the world. George (the curator) was the most amazing person we met on the island. A wealth of knowledge and truly loved what he does. I strongly advise to make your first stop on Santorini to this museum and talk to George. In addition to making the museum a wonderful experience, he gave us what turned out to be the most awesome dining experiences we had...

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of boats, "but for €5, why not?", I thought. What a fantastic museum! Having just been recently renovated, the museum is tastefully laid out with several interactive exhibits, including a functional 300m periscope and operable model steamboat upstairs.

Talking to the staff was the best part, however. I learned so much about Santorini including information about the special way that wineries on the island grow their grapes; using the special volcanic soil, which was a main export of the island for close to a hundred years.

Whether you love all things Maritime or simply want to learn more about what makes Santorini so unique, check out...

We came across this remarkable little museum whilst roaming around Oia. The museum has fascinating nautical instruments, objects and maps. The restored building has a fascinating history and there are many design quirks, which the curator was very happy to share. A must visit for anyone who is fascinated by ships and architecture.

The only comment I would add is I would've liked to see more background information about some pieces of the collection, maps regarding the social and geographical influence of Santorini through each period would help to see how the islands have developed over time (this is a comment for all the museums on...

Great hands on museum on the maritime history of Santorini. George greeted us and he is incredibly helpful and encouraging to ask any questions you have. He is so excited by the subject he is more than happy to talk well beyond the contents of his museum. He’ll make everyone fired up to learn more about the history. One of the highlights for us was the working periscope in the outside gallery. You are encouraged to try it out. So fun!!! The layout of exhibits is wonderful and it’s comfortably set up with chairs and a video. Get away from the crowds and come get up close to the real history of Santorini and Greece! We loved it!

We thoroughly enjoyed this museum. Though it's small, it showcases fascinating maritime artifacts from Santorini’s rich history, including many photographs, maps, and items that are several hundred years old. Mr. George, the manager, was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. He guided us through the museum, explaining its history, the people behind its creation, and Santorini's significance as a trade route in the region. We were very pleased with our visit to this museum during our time in Oia.

A nice small museum with many different well presented artifacts. Very nice and welcoming staff that told us about the history of the museum. Admittance was 5 Euro per person, well worth the hour that we spent exploring the various rooms. The main theme is the maritime history of Santorini, but there's also a WW2 periscope that must have come from a US Navy submarine. I wonder how that part ended up on the island...
