El Chaparral — Restaurant in Panajachel

Terrible experience. The food was just average, nothing special at all. The waiter had a terrible attitude the entire time — very inattentive and downright rude. On top of that, they tried to charge me an extra fee for paying with card (which is completely illegal), so I decided to pay in cash instead. Then the waiter stole my change of 60Q, assuming it was a tip — even though the tip was already included in the bill. Dishonest, unprofessional, and unacceptable. I would never come back here and I don’t recommend this...

Got dropped off by my cramped bus from Antigua and this was the first place we found with cervezas and lake views! Our bartender, Juan, was wonderful and helpful. He told us the best town in Lake Atitlán is Santiago. And served our beers in these awesome little Mayan knits (see photos). Totally recommend this place. Ate shrimp ceviche, which was exactly as expected. Sunset views. And right by the boat launch....

I spend about three or four months in Panajachel every winter, and I found the Chaparral about 8 or 9 years ago; this became my favorite restaurant. The food is very good and reasonably priced, and the family who own the restaurant are very friendly. The views of the sunset are wonderful, especially in the winter...
