If you want a beautifully executed Michelin starred dinner (+wine pairing) that is worth your eating quota and $$, look somewhere else. The plates were all beautifully dished. The marriage of flavors were lacking on every dish by several points. The wine did not bring out anything special from the ingredients used. I found it odd that they chose to begin the dinner w whites and then moved on to reds and transitioned back to whites. I Absolutely loved the desserts though in terms of creativity and flavor, esp the use of local ingredients. Pastry chef gets 5 stars from me. Service was just off. It's like they hired all new people 2 days prior. Here's a list of why they're off: My mate and I like reading along to the menu as to what we are eating. So we requested to have a menu at the table. One of our 3 waiters was kind enough to bring us the menu just so another waiter can come by to say nonono... We can't do that. The first waiter redeemed by giving us a signed menu that they usually give to the patrons at the end. As they were cleaning the table between courses, one of my waiters reached beneath my arm to retrieve the silverware set in front of me (I was showing something from my phone across the table to my mate). It was purely an awkward gesture that I didn't expect even from a pub restaurant. We waited over 30mins between the last savory course and the pre dessert. (Not pertaining to our table) the couple next to us were already on their dessert course. The lady of the table stepped away to use the restroom. They served the dessert anyway. What's worse is that the dessert had dry ice as it's presentation. So time away from the table means less time to enjoy the wow factor of the dish. The wet towel served at the beginning of dinner left my hands smelling like a moldy wet dog scent. I waited for my hands to air out to see maybe it's just my nose. But nope...had to go wash them immediately.
I was not impressed especially when you go to a michelin restaurant, you have a certain level of expectation. It was def a big waste of...
Read moreMy fiancée and I booked this restaurant for New Years Eve after reading that COSTES had a special menu/event for the holiday. We were looking for someplace to celebrate as we traditionally travel and visit Michelin Stared Restaurants for New Years Eve. This tragic experience was like one we have never had before.
Since the dinner started at 9PM; we expected that if we would be there at 12AM there would be a party to celebrate the New Year. This is what we have previously experienced at such events. The dinner at COSTES was extremely slow, and by the time we hit 12AM we were just finishing the Main Course. The Staff did not even acknowledge that we had entered the New Year, there was no celebration. I had to wish the Sommelier happy new year before she even reciprocated.
The staff was annoyed when we asked along with another group to go outside the restaurant for a 5 minute break to watch the fireworks and the restaurant had not planned any celebration for the New Year. We paid over 750USD for this lackluster experience. The food was not even that memorable compared to other starred restaurants, and the service was so slow we left the dinner craving food. Last year I paid much more but the food and party were worth the experience. This year not so much!
The waiters were cold; however, they were pleasant if you managed to get them to speak to you. The manager was clearly busy trying to appease a large dinner party celebrating the new year in the restaurant, who like ourselves was upset that there was no party, and the food was slow to arrive. I’m all for a dining experience but the New Years Eve dinner was a dining disaster.
In my opinion this restaurant should have its star revoked. The food was good, but by no means worthy of a star. The group in my opinion has too many restaurants to manage quality at this point.
All in all, if you want a nice new years eve experience that’s lively and fun, with good food, don’t go to COSTES....
Read moreOne of my wifes bucket list item was to eat in a. Michelin Starred Restaurant, so it was time to bring her bucket list on that one to an end! We booked in for the night we arrived in Budapest, 8th May at 20:00. I was surprised to get into the resturants at such short notice but we did. We opted for the 6 course (chefs choice) with wine pairing, it was fantastic, it was everything and more, my wife was so enthusiastic each time a different course came out, it started with 3 muse bouche courses and a very good champagne aperitif. Each course was stunning to look at and to eat. I am not one for a fish dish and will gladly say I am still not a fish dish person however or by whoever cooked it, but I are it and it was certainly interesting to say the least. We had Thomasz the assistant Sommelier describe the wines and why they were paired with our dishes, Thomasz was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic which made the evening so much more appealing. We had the chefs choice and 3 or 4 of the dishes were different so the wine pairing was different, again very agreeable. I had the selection of cheeses with paired hand, 3 of the 4 I loved but the blue cheese still haunts me, it was not my thing at all and even my wife who enjoys blue cheeses said it was super strong, needless to say I won't go there again with blue cheese! I had venison for the first time, it always smelt very gamey... yes it is game hence why I didn't eat it before but wow, this was so soft, melt in your mouth and succulent, I have been converted into a venison meat eater now and would try it again. The dinner was everything and more, it was fantastic, expensive but...
