At first, because of the bad reviews, I was a little worried to visit Hummus Bar Budapest. Two great friends of mine recommended me this place, saying they have the best hummus and falafel in town. I'm a risky guy, I like to take risks, so I went there with my girlfriend on a date dinner. We barely put our foot in the restaurant, the waitress already welcomed us with two glasses of fine tea and recommended a table for us. I should mention that I'm not a tea guy, but this tea was so tasty! Then she brought us the menu. While I was reading through the menu and trying to figure out what I'm going to get, I noticed that my girl is staring at me. All I can tell, that her eyes were shiny and happy. It was the same shine on our first date, 5 months ago. The waitress was so nice and waited until we enjoyed each other's company for a moment. Then she came and took the order. I ordered Jerusalem menu (I gotta be honest I forgot it's name) which was chicken breasts, with livers and hummus + Moroccan carrot salad. The waitress actually recommended me a better version of a salad, which also contained Moroccan carrots, so I picked that one. My girlfriend ordered almost the same, but with no chicken breasts, and fried potatoes instead of salad. + we ordered 2 big glasses of lemonade with little mint pieces inside. Also I should mention that I'm no fan of mint, but this lemonade was MINT and so refreshing! :D It took them less than 8 minutes to bring our dishes. Now about the food. Long story short, the food was delicious!! Warm and good taste. So many tastes packed on one plate. We even exchanged tastes with my girl and both of the dishes were super tasty..! They also brought 4 huge steamy and fresh pitas, which smelled so nice, accompanied with two really spicy but tasty sauces for the hummus. At the beginning my girl was worried that we won't feel satiated from hummus, but i can tell after we finished it, we were pretty full! They gave us big portions! Now a little bit about the service. I was very happy to see that the waitress is taking notes while taking the order, so she is not only memorising it. (many restaurants don't take notes and usually they skip a few orders and you have to remind them) She was smiling and very helpful. Loved the fact that she recommended a better variation of the Moroccan salad. She brought the food quick and also she came to clean it up after we finished. Now about payment. Before we went to the restaurant, I called them by phone and asked if the accept SZÉP card, (which is like a cafeteria card for holidays) and they said yes. We paid with the card, they said thanks for coming, and we left. I also must mention that I used to work as a Mystery Shopper before, and this place was clean, the cutlery and glasses were clean. And the service was great. We'll definitely come back! The only thing I didn't like was that I wrote them a message on facebook and I still didn't get a response. In order for a business to run, it is mandatory to have a quick answer for all the questions. So they must improve a bit on this field. At the end of the day we had a nice walk on the Danube's riverside and to summarise the whole date, I can say that we had a quality time! Thanks for...
Read moreI'm sure the stars aligned against me this Sunday, but after sitting down, I went to the counter to get a menu myself because I noticed the place was a bit crowded, in order to take a bit of time to read and choose, and give time to the staff to clean our table from the previous guests.
The waitress told me since there was table service, to kindly go back at the table and wait for them to bring us menus and take the order; she then proceeds to ignore my table for 40mins while taking orders and bringing food to the rest of the room, all while passing right in front of me, visibly bothered.
After said 40mins I get up again and ask at the counter if there's at least a menu available, cause obviously the table service needs a while to figure that in a whole room of dining people there's two fellas completely left to themselves.
After 1h10m, we got our food (we just ordered a hummus bowl and a shakshuka). In the meantime, several people sat, ordered, ate and went about their day.
I'd review the food too (it was okay, even though you can't just lightly fry some garlic that's still raw and call it garlic confit), but I feel like it's kind of irrelevant when you sit down and get ignored for almost an hour.
Also, they should invest in an air filtration system cause the oil smell just gives you a punch in the gut...
Read moreThe hummus bar at Wesselényi Street was terrible in every way yesterday. Notwithstanding the indignation in the eyes of the waiter (perhaps from India) that we didnt want to sit in the crowded room downstairs and went upstairs, he then took our orders with a disdainful attitude, and if that werent enough, he literally threw the food and drinks on the table. Actually, the quality of the food was okay, and everyone can have a bad day- at that point we could have forgiven his attitude. However, the real "show" began when trying to pay: as no one had come upstairs for 20 minutes to bring our check, we packed and we wanted to pay at the counter, as we have always done in any of the other hummus bars in Pest. They wanted to get us back to the floor by referring to rules that we could only pay sitting down (???). After a long discussion, I asked if we could be allowed to pay at ANY table as long as we were sitting down, and that was the answer. So we were able to pay sitting at a random table. In the end, the piece de resistance of the evening was when the waiter in question started complaining about us paying separately for the check and mumbling about dragging us back to our table next time . He did not respond to our goodbye. I guess I will not be next. We were FLABBERGASTED, this is both ridiculous and...
