I had a distressing experience at this hostel on November 25th. On that night, I encountered violence and rudeness, which left me feeling vulnerable and helpless. I originally stayed nearby in an apartment, but my money and keys were stolen, leaving me stranded. Seeking refuge, I approached the hostel to inquire about accommodation for the night.
Regrettably, when I explained my situation to a young man at the hostel's entrance, he informed me that they had no available rooms. I pleaded for a moment to use the wifi inside, as it was a cold and dark night, and I urgently needed to find an alternative place to stay. Instead of showing empathy and understanding, he insisted I leave immediately.
I want to stress that I was not being confrontational or disrespectful. I simply needed a warm place to seek shelter and find a solution to my predicament. However, the young man forcibly pushed me out of the premises, an action that was both humiliating and disheartening.
I urge the hostel's management to review security camera footage and listen to the conversation that took place during this incident. It's essential to determine the reasons behind this unwarranted treatment. I wonder if there might have been racial bias or other factors at play. Regardless of the cause, using physical force was entirely unjustified.
I believe that in such situations, a place like this hostel should provide support and assistance to those in need. I wasn't asking for anything beyond a temporary refuge from the cold, and I am deeply disappointed by the treatment I received from this employee. I hope that the management takes this matter seriously and addresses it appropriately to ensure the safety and well-being of all guests...
Read moreI don't even know where to begin with this review. This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in! They put on free tourist and sight seeing activities every single day, and social activities every single night. You could literally go here not planning a single thing for budapest and knowing nothing, and the staff and volunteers will do it all for you and show you everything. The kitchen is small but very easy to use and well stocked. I experienced a lovely party atmosphere but was also able to sleep very well at night. I've genuinely never felt so welcome and invited by hostel staff in my life. The staff literally greet you by name every time you walk in! The whole staff was soooo amazing, but Solomon, Rob and Alina made it a truly incredible experience for me. The rooms and bathrooms as well as all common areas are sooo clean and sanitary and cleaned multiple times a day by the lovely cleaning staff. Curtains, outlets, lockers in the beds and they even provide a key lock for your stay. Also the location could not be better it is in very close walking distance to absolutely everything including clubs and restaurants. I met friends here that I will have for life. This hostel is PERFECT for solo travelers and small groups alike! Don't even consider staying...

H1 Budapest is a great hostel. The rooms are spacious, and the location is perfect.
The staff are the greatest highlight, with many going above and beyond to make every guest's stay as memorable as possible. Honourable mentions go to Waterworks (Farrah), as well as Charlotte, Martini, Amandine, and Solomon. Fuad at the bar is also a true hero, as are all the receptionists.
The building could benefkt from some light refurbishments, which would really go a long way. Additionally, the downstairs showers should be retrofitted with lockable doors - curtains quite simply ain't it, chief.
The drinking games could be made more inventive, as pizza box seems to be the script every day, but there are so many guests that making your own fun is easy. This seems to be the case in every Hostel 1, strangely. Beer pong could also be improved by using some wider reusable cups.
Also, more effort should really be made to add more variety to the nights out, as Szimpla and, particularly, Instant feature far too often.
Overall it's still a 10 - much appreciated...
