A great, modern, social hostel that's part of the Onefam chain. The usual sleeping setup are rooms with multiple bunk beds that are premium quality, including the sturdy mattress, bed curtains for added privacy, personal locker, power plug and a light directly in the bed. The hostel is very clean, including shared bathrooms and showers. What I really liked were the common areas, kitchen and couches spread all over the place so that people can just relax or work. There is also a small bar next to the reception which serves cocktails and draft beers until 10pm, all for reasonable and fair prices. After 10pm, the staff will take the group to some local famous night club (like Szimpla Kert) and if you happen to bump into a good bunch of people, you will have a lots of fun and make new friends. I've stayed in multiple different European Onefams, but this one was the best so far. Additionally, I was able to park my motorcycle on the sidewalk in front of the hostel overnight (it's legal and free in Budapest), but shockingly, someone stole my motorcycle cover, so be careful!

it’s like a home with people from all over the place to have a good time and make new friends! Great location close to station and walking distance to many sights!! awesome vegetarian meals cooked by volunteers. The place is also looked after by volunteers they all are amazing to the core - never met any group of staff which are all super nice!!!!how is that possible? but it’s true the front desk volunteers are sweethearts they go out of their way. Clean beds, there’s a locker in the rooms so don’t forget to bring a padlock. Washrooms/Showers are okay for a hostel. They have a bar and have little happy hour and they have games/activities everyday. There’s a computer for any printing of tickets etc. Fridge to store your groceries in case you want to cook - right across from the hostel there’s a little grocery store. The main doors are secured.

The staff is excellent here, very friendly and welcoming. There are free 'family dinners' every night (the general consensus is that it's comparable to prison quality food) , as well as drinking games (not very fun and seemed forced) before heading out as a group to a free pub crawl. I came here as a solo traveler and made friends right away in this hostel, however we had some extremely rowdy people in our dorm, including one person who went into my bed naked while I was sleeping. This isn't so much the hostels fault- this IS a party hostel- but these are the type of people it attracts. I wouldn't recommend this hostel unless you're looking purely for a party hostel. Don't expect a decent night sleep during your stay here- even ear plugs can't drown out the noise.

I had a distressing experience at this hostel on November 25th. On that night, I encountered violence and rudeness, which left me feeling vulnerable and helpless. I originally stayed nearby in an apartment, but my money and keys were stolen, leaving me stranded. Seeking refuge, I approached the hostel to inquire about accommodation for the night.

Regrettably, when I explained my situation to a young man at the hostel's entrance, he informed me that they had no available rooms. I pleaded for a moment to use the wifi inside, as it was a cold and dark night, and I urgently needed to find an alternative place to stay. Instead of showing empathy and understanding, he insisted I leave immediately.

I want to stress that I was not being confrontational or disrespectful. I simply needed a warm place to seek shelter and find a solution to my predicament. However, the young man forcibly pushed me out of the premises, an action that was both humiliating and disheartening.

I urge the hostel's management to review security camera footage and listen to the conversation that took place during this incident. It's essential to determine the reasons behind this unwarranted treatment. I wonder if there might have been racial bias or other factors at play. Regardless of the cause, using physical force was entirely unjustified.

I believe that in such situations, a place like this hostel should provide support and assistance to those in need. I wasn't asking for anything beyond a temporary refuge from the cold, and I am deeply disappointed by the treatment I received from this employee. I hope that the management takes this matter seriously and addresses it appropriately to ensure the safety and well-being of all guests...

I don't even know where to begin with this review. This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in! They put on free tourist and sight seeing activities every single day, and social activities every single night. You could literally go here not planning a single thing for budapest and knowing nothing, and the staff and volunteers will do it all for you and show you everything. The kitchen is small but very easy to use and well stocked. I experienced a lovely party atmosphere but was also able to sleep very well at night. I've genuinely never felt so welcome and invited by hostel staff in my life. The staff literally greet you by name every time you walk in! The whole staff was soooo amazing, but Solomon, Rob and Alina made it a truly incredible experience for me. The rooms and bathrooms as well as all common areas are sooo clean and sanitary and cleaned multiple times a day by the lovely cleaning staff. Curtains, outlets, lockers in the beds and they even provide a key lock for your stay. Also the location could not be better it is in very close walking distance to absolutely everything including clubs and restaurants. I met friends here that I will have for life. This hostel is PERFECT for solo travelers and small groups alike! Don't even consider staying...

So nice I had to stay twice!

H1 Budapest is a great hostel. The rooms are spacious, and the location is perfect.

The staff are the greatest highlight, with many going above and beyond to make every guest's stay as memorable as possible. Honourable mentions go to Waterworks (Farrah), as well as Charlotte, Martini, Amandine, and Solomon. Fuad at the bar is also a true hero, as are all the receptionists.

The building could benefkt from some light refurbishments, which would really go a long way. Additionally, the downstairs showers should be retrofitted with lockable doors - curtains quite simply ain't it, chief.

The drinking games could be made more inventive, as pizza box seems to be the script every day, but there are so many guests that making your own fun is easy. This seems to be the case in every Hostel 1, strangely. Beer pong could also be improved by using some wider reusable cups.

Also, more effort should really be made to add more variety to the nights out, as Szimpla and, particularly, Instant feature far too often.

Overall it's still a 10 - much appreciated...
