A well-located restaurant which offers typical Hungarian fare, at very reasonable prices. I would describe the food quality as average, rather than good. I'm not sure a Sunday lunch provides a good measure, as it is always possible that the head chef is absent, but that is when we went. The wine list is minimalist, but nothing is expensive, nor of exceptional quality or value either. You would do well to avoid one of the surly waiters, of which there are a few (in fairness, we were also served by one friendly waiter too). As one small example, I asked after one of the hand-written wine offers only to be told that as he can't read it - he didn't have his glasses on and wasn't going to put them on - he had no idea what I was talking about. This changed to "We don't have it" when he was pressed, so we went for a standard, uninspiring offer. We'd probably go again for the food, but only in the hope that we'd get some reasonable service and an...
Read moreNegative experience from bad chicken.
We got chicken paprikash; the chicken tasted bad. We removed it from the plate to a separate plate. When I pointed it out, at first the waiter doubted us, but reluctantly agreed to take it in for the chef "to check it".
After checking, he offered to bring two new pieces of chicken, which we could eat with the remaining sauce and nokedli. We reluctantly agreed. Horrible decision. Since the meat had touched the sauce, which they still had us eat, apparently that was enough to cause us salmonella poisoning. My girlfriend has been deeply, deeply sick for the whole week since we've been there, in deep pain, unable to eat. She's a doctor, and she is sure it was salmonella.
Most restaurants would have apologized, brought us a completely new dish, and not charged for it. Instead, we felt somewhat guilty even just for asking for two non-rotten pieces of chicken, and now have to suffer...
Read moreThis is a classic hungarian restaurant that we were suggested to go to by our hotel reception. The stuff in the restaurant is very friendly, they speak very good English and are very responsive to your needs. The prices of the meal are moderate, comparing to other Budapest restaurants that we visited. But the taste and freshness and allover quality are just superior! Once we ordered, we got the soup in only couple of minutes And main course took another positive 15 minutes. It was Saturday around 2p.m. and the small restaurant was nearly full. Also the portions are so large that my wife could not eat it all. Again, the stuff was quick to pack the rest of our food for take away. We simply liked the place, the service, loved the food! Thats why I give 5 stars, they deserve it! Thank you,...
