This place is owned by a jazz musician and has a different taste for bands than the other most prominent jazz club in Budapest (BJC). Especially when we're talking about foreign bands. More experimental bands are invited here in a wider musical spectrum. Very recommended if you're visiting these kinds of places for enjoying the music primarily, as heavy chatting during the performances is impolite here.
You can only book a table after you bought tickets (online). If you think you really will not be able to stop talking during the performance, book your table to the galleries, rather than to the stage level.
Don't forget that BMC (Budapest Music Club) that Opus jazz club is part of, also offers classical music concerts in an other (larger) concert hall.
It's overall a cool place with good acoustics, cool selection of music on stage, good food and nice atmosphere. A bit pricey for an average Hungarian. Although you will be asked if you want to have dinner when booking the table, you are not mandated to eat, ordering a few drinks will do. Highly...
Read moreEasily the best jazz club I've ever been to and it must be one of the best in the world. The reason I say that is not necessarily related to the music, but because it is a beautiful room with good acoustics, high quality sound reinforcement, and a good layout. Furthermore the food is actually quite good, with diverse, healthy, and attractively presented dishes. Food is not often a strong point at jazz clubs, so this place is doing it right. I didn't love the musical act this evening (a little too free, not melodic enough for my taste), but that says nothing about the club and I know good acts come through every week. All these points add up to Opus being a top-notch jazz club that is a great experience for a traveler or a date night. To top it off, the cover charge for most shows is only 1500-2000...
Read moreThis was a lovely surprise! We went to watch a jazz concert and have dinner. The set-up is that you buy a ticket for a specific table and then you can order drinks and something to eat. The food was outstanding and appropriately priced. The only thing we didn't like too much were the desserts, but nothing major. Service was very good and not "working for the tip" - at the end, 5% will be included. The venue is very intimate. People at the front were at an harms-length of the stage, but there are other places at the back, if you prefer. When we went, the musicians were very good and put a good show. They change the line-up between nights, but I believe the overall quality remains high. All in all, it was a very lovely evening and we can definitely...
