Eight euro for a Guinness is already astonishing, that's comparable to Irish prices and the highest I've ever encountered on the continent. But the real madness is charging a mandatory tip even for the most basic service. A gratuity should be by choice, always. Having to pay a fee for service even when you order at the bar is unacceptable. Recommend to avoid.
EDIT (reply to below): It is a credit to you that you respond to my complain. Good to see.
With that said, I maintain: eight euro for a Guinness isn't really justifiable, not in the diaspora and certainly not in Hungary. I have also worked in Irish bars on the continent, every time in more expensive places than Budapest. None of them came close to this price, and I very much doubt you will attract returning customers with this kind of fee.
On the gratuity: it simply isn't justifiable. Whether or not others do it, doesn't matter. I'll leave them bad reviews too. This isn't the US, leaving a tip should be a choice, always. Your staff weren't rude or anything, but they weren't charming either - why would they be, when there's no real incentive. This is the benchmark of Irish bar culture, the welcoming environment. I didn't find that there, and I will not return to a place which charges me a compulsory fee for the act of turning a step to the left and pulling a pint...
Read moreI visited Publin Irish Pub & Restaurant and had a great time. The pub has a cozy and authentic atmosphere, with wooden furniture, Irish memorabilia and live music. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the service was fast. I enjoyed some good Irish beer from their wide selection of drinks. They have several draught beers on tap, such as Guinness, Peroni and Kilkenny. I especially liked the Guinness Draught, which was smooth and creamy. The prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of drinks. The pub also has some nice features that make it stand out from other places. It has an upper desk where you can enjoy the loud music while sipping your drink. It has neat bathrooms that are clean and well-maintained. It has outdoor seating where you can relax in the fresh air also it is located in a prime location and thus easily accessible, which is close to many attractions, shops and public transport. I would recommend this pub to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing place to hang out...
Read morePretty average pub really nothing to get excited about. As Scottish tourists we were treated with courtesy but noticed a couple of Swedish guys were not made welcome. When they sat with us that changed. The music was OK but very limited it seemed to be on a loop as the same music was repeated half an hour later. Maybe consier playing Irish music this would dramatically improve the mood of the bar.Prices were OK and choice of drinks was OK. The decor looked very irish but the atmosphere was not Irish at all. People expect a lot from an irish themed pub so Wouldn't rush to go back, think the owners need to put more detail to the Irish bar setup for it to become a great bar and the bar staff need to work on being much more friendly and less judgemental of the customers. Could be a really good place with a bit more attention to detail if they want to stand out from their competitors The Hungarian pubs had much more to offer and were much...
