So Little Melbourne is a good place to grab a coffee and have a laugh. I don’t know if the pretentiousness is due to youth, Budapest or they import it from Melbourne. It’s not rude service - it’s precocious and vapid service from a 20 something you have to laugh at once you pass 35 maybe 40 years old. The drip coffee is good (espresso drinks are weak and milky - get an extra shot). However you are greeted with a sign that says sugar ruins the magic…and they charge around 12 cents per sugar packet to make their point.
This all came to head when I ordered a drip coffee (which costs as much as an expresso drink for some reason). I then turned around in confusion to search for the milk and sugar - of course there was none. I then asked the barista for milk and sugar and she responded smugly with “You should try it first”. Now I know i look young but I have been drinking coffee around the world for nearly 40 years. Have they created a coffee that when brewed simulates milk and sugar - like a willy wonka type coffee???
Nope it tasted like coffee and so the barista looking defeated, relented and poured milk from her pitcher and handed over a packet of sugar. I had to chuckle to myself that the coffee was more expensive and the service more pretentious than back home (and I live in Paris!!!). Please go here and ask for milk and sugar (even if you take the coffee black) just to see the looks on their faces. Maybe we can start a revolution where they actually have a...
Read moreI had some espresso in there the other day and it was ok, but not really top notch either. I asked about batch brew, but it was clear it had been made several hours ago - though they would clearly have sold it. Perhaps their flat whites & aussie cappucinos are more the thing to go for idk, but I don't think a coffee shop that really takes pride in its product should be doing that. Service was 'Hungarian friendly', which meant that no rudeness was show but when there was no water available I didn't really feel comfortable asking for it. Ultimately coffee prices are higher everywhere, & there are reasons for that, but when ppl put down their money you need to deliver and well...the place didn't really feel that special & is maybe resting on its laurels & its tourist location a bit. Just my 2 cents, ymmv obv. Edit: I think the surly response I received tells you all you need to know but I will address the main points from the owner. 1) I know about the batch brew because I asked about it, 2) there was no water/glasses at the counter whilst I was there. & 3) The primary point of reviews is to advise other potential customers, not necessarily to feedback to the owners but it does not really seem like they are receptive to...
Read moreLocated in the heart of Budapest, Little Melbourne lives up to its name, delivering a slice of the Australian coffee culture right to the city's doorstep. I stopped by to sample their flat whites—one with oat milk and the other with regular milk. The coffee was exceptional, with a rich, robust flavor and beautifully crafted latte art that indicated a high level of skill and attention to detail.
The oat milk flat white had a smooth, creamy texture, and the nutty flavor of the oat milk complemented the coffee wonderfully. The regular milk flat white was just as delightful, with a velvety texture and the full-bodied taste that coffee aficionados appreciate.
While the coffee was a hit, the customer service was satisfactory, though not remarkable. The staff was efficient but lacked the warmth and engaging friendliness you might find elsewhere. The ambiance was decent, providing a comfortable environment to enjoy your drink, but it didn’t stand out as particularly memorable or unique.
All in all, for those seeking a quality coffee experience in Budapest, Little Melbourne is worth a visit, especially for the coffee. It's a spot where the product speaks louder than the...
