Retro Büfé és Hamburger — Restaurant in Budapest

Yesterday, I ate the best burger of my life. And I’m getting old—I’ve had a lot of burgers.

This place is a hole-in-the-wall on a short little back street near traffic, with just a few chairs outside. You can’t get drunk—they don’t serve alcohol. All in all, it’s the perfect backdrop for the perfect hamburger.

I got a large, retro Hungarian-style burger but asked them to add some extra spice, a generous chunk of melted cheese, and bacon.

The bread—fresh from the bakery every day—was sweet and soft enough to stand on its own while enhancing the other flavors: a delicious brioche with stamina.

The bun was perfectly roasted on the grill on the cut side, ready to stand its ground against the tangy sauerkraut, bold mustard, sweet glazed chopped onions, brittle bacon, and smooth mayo—everything neatly balanced.

And then there’s the meat: an unbelievably crisp-seared crust yielding to a chunky but tender center of perfectly ground, fresh pink meat.

It’s just enough to make you want another bite until you’re completely satisfied. And you are left totally satisfied. As for me—I died a little and went to heaven for a while.

Really really great place. None of the menus are in English (that I found!) But some locals helped me to talk to the chef to find the most popular burger - Bacon & Cheddar. My gosh. It was good! Only bad thing was that the bun fell apart fairly quickly, but you get a wrapped that keeps everything fairly in place. The chef even came to clear my table and ask if I enjoyed my burger and we had a chat with the help of google translate. Clearly a guy who is passionate about his work. For what you get, I think it is very reasonably priced, pretty big portion even for the smallest size patty. Highly recommended, you have to try it...

Honestly, one of the best burgers in Budapest in my opinion, you get great portions, fantastic service and atmosphere. Very cozy experience. The number of returning customers speaks for itself. I have a friend who comes by the place every week. Chef Joci is a great chap, and has been making authentic burgers since the 90s if not more. A local champion.
