This is a good a traditional Hungarian Restaurant which has a wide variety of different dishes. We visited this Retaurant a lot of times and the quality is good but the waitress is a little bit rude and not so friendly.
FOOD We ordered a lot of different food.
We startet with 2 Soups. The Goulash Soup (Gulyasleves) for 1.450 HUF, and the Kolbasz Soup (Csókaköi kolbászleves) for 1.350 HUF. Both of the were very good and had a great taste. They served it with fresh spicy paprika and some bread as well.
For the main dishes we ordered a chicken Cordon Bleu (Sajttal, sonkával töltött csirkemell rántva vegyes körettel) for 3.980 HUF. The meat was great and the crumb was crispy. It was very delicious, but the fries were not crispy and a little bit tasteless. The second dish was pork with garlic, Hungarian bacon and fries (Cigánypecsenye steak burgonyával) for 4.490 HUF. This dish was perfect, the meat was good cooked and the Hungarian bacon was great as well. Furthermore the steak fries had a good taste, especially with the garlic note. The other dishes where the already prepared ones: Hungarian Beef stew with dubbing’s (Marhapörkölt galuskával) for 3.960 HUF and the Chicken Paprika with dumplings for 3.550 HUF. Both of them are great and I can recommend them every time because they know how to cook them in a good way.
For the sides we ordered some different salads: tomato, cucumber and cabbage salat. They are standard and good.
DRINKS We went for some draft beer, soft drinks and real Hungarian Palinka (plum, raspberry and pear). The booze was great and especially the raspberry Palinka was delicous as hell. This was the perfect finish.
SERVICE They waitress is a little bit rude and not that friendly. But because of the good food we visit this restaurant all the time, when we are in Budapest.
RESTAURANT The restaurant is located directly in the city center near the financial district. You will find some parking space directly in front of the restaurant and nearby. You can sit inside and outside as well. unfortunately the tables outside are a little bit too small, if you order some more food. The toilets are clean and the other impression is totally okay and very rustically.
Please notice that there is already a 10% Service charge on the bill! But this is very common...
Read moreWhile Tüköry Étterem boasts a history and location that might attract both tourists and locals seeking traditional Hungarian cuisine in Budapest's downtown, my recent experience left much to be desired. Unlike what its longstanding presence might suggest, the restaurant does not stand out among the myriad of options for Hungarian dining in the city.
The ambiance, aiming for a quaint, traditional feel with its wooden booths and checkered tablecloths, unfortunately, falls short due to cleanliness issues. The floors felt greasy and unkept, detracting significantly from the dining experience. This aspect of neglect suggests a need for improved maintenance and attention to the overall cleanliness of the restaurant.
Regarding the menu, while Tüköry attempts to offer a range of Hungarian classics, the quality and execution of the dishes do not live up to expectations, especially considering the price point. The food, in my experience, lacked the authenticity and depth of flavor that one can find in other Hungarian establishments around Budapest. Furthermore, the prices are not as competitive as one might hope, especially given the quality of the offerings.
For those considering making a special trip to Tüköry Étterem from other parts of the city, it might be prudent to explore other options. Budapest is rich with culinary delights, especially when it comes to Hungarian cuisine, and there are numerous alternatives where the quality of food, ambiance, and value align more closely with expectations.
In conclusion, while Tüköry Étterem holds the potential charm of a traditional Hungarian eatery, its execution in terms of cleanliness, culinary quality, and value leaves room for improvement. For a truly memorable Hungarian dining experience, one might consider looking elsewhere in Budapest's vibrant...
Read moreDreadful! I was really looking forward to a nice meal here based on some reviews, but I was majorly disappointed. Firstly, the step into the restaurant is very uneven and covered up by a mat. As I tried to enter, I lost my balance, fell backwards and scraped my forearm on the door frame. This was met by raucous laughter from the waitresses grouped together in the back of the restaurant. Secondly, the temperature was 40 degrees Celsius in the restaurant and the same waitresses grumbled nonstop about the heat. There were two air conditioning units but neither was turned on. ????? Thirdly, the quality and taste of my drink and food was unpalatable. One of the surly waitresses managed to finally shift herself to take the entire order in one go, drinks, starters, mains. My so called homemade lemonade tasted like water wrung out from a mop. My csirke paprikás had zero flavour and the galuska with it was in three big clumps. I'm Hungarian and know and love Hungarian food. This most definitely was NOT real Hungarian food. It's embarrassing that tourists eat this establishment's rubbish and think how horrible Hungarian cuisine is. Fourthly, the surly waitress group made loud derogatory remarks about every single customer, fully aware I understood what they were saying. Lastly and most importantly, avoid this place. There are so many quality Hungarian restaurants in Budapest to choose from with great food and friendly staff. Don't waste your time and money with this dump and it's obnoxious staff because they don't...
