Essentials of Hungarian Wine at the Tasting Table: The two hour experience is hosted in an atmospheric little wine cellar shop in the Palace Quarter.
We were welcomed at the door by our very knowledgeable and passionate guide Tomas, who speaks English so well it was like he was born in West London. He is super enthusiastic about Hungarian Wine and has a wide knowledge of other wine cultures around the world, and how they compare and contrast with those we were about to taste.
You get 8 good sized glasses of wine (1 sparkling, 3 white, 3 red & 1 dessert), breads, meats and cheeses. There was some truffle dip that was especially good and I really enjoyed the cured meats paired with the red wines. The portions were enough that we did not need to think about dinner and we were quite full by the end. There are tasting notes for all the wines and you can keep track of what you enjoyed on the score cards provided.
We really enjoyed this experience and it was very good value at just under £40 per person. The best thing we did in Budapest and highly...
Read moreSomeone told me I had to go wine tasting whilst in Hungary so after some research I came upon the Tasting Table and decided to come here. Walked in around 2:40 and was unaware that we needed to make a reservation( pro tip make a reservation before you come). Thankfully though, Támas was extremely accommodating and was able to fit us in. Experience was absolutely fantastic, great way to meet new people and enjoy some fine wines. Your guide will walk you through everything you need to know about each wine and the history of the region and the wineries themselves and it was very fascinating. This was the first time I’ve ever drunken wine before and what a way to begin my experience with wine, after my first time I already have a decent knowledge and very good appreciation for wines, especially those from Hungary. The whole experience takes about 2 hours or so, and once it’s complete you can buy some of the wines you liked and you get a 10% discount by taking the “tour”. Wonderful experience and a must when...
Read moreThe whole experience was really great. I was welcomed by Christian, and the trip around different parts of Hungary began by introducing the four wines I'd be tasting; from a white wine to a rose one and then to a red, finishing on a high note with a sweet white one (which, although not my cup of tea, was surprisingly refreshing). Christian shared all necessary information about the different regions and the techniques used to produce each wine and was there to answer my various questions. I would definitely recommend giving it a try and also checking out the other options available for wine tasting, or if you're planning to stay longer, even schedule a tour to one of Hungary's wineries. A 5 out of 5 also for the host's friendly and positive attitude, which was key for ensuring the best experience. Thank you, Christian and team! PS. If you end up wanting to buy a bottle (or two), just ask for recommendations. Simply let them know what your palette likes the most and you will get the wine that best suits...
