I am very impressed by the food, except for a problem I had with overcooked duck. Asian dishes do tend to overcook duck compared to western tastes though. I visited twice in the space of a week during a stay in Budapest. On my first visit I arrived just after 10:30pm and was told that food was still being served for orders in the next 10 minutes. I quickly ordered starter and main. I love the sweet chilli sauce in this place, it has a lovely flavour and good spicy kick. I would order any starter that includes it. On my first night I had tempura prawns with sweet chilli. On my second night I had squid with sweet chilli. The squid was so soft, juicy and perfect. My 1st night main was a delicious chicken with ginger dish - they have a big menu. My 2nd night main was duck in a sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was fantastic but it was a shame that the duck was overcooked. No sign of pink whatsoever - just brown meat, nice but drier and a lot less flavoursome than it could have been. It was just my second visit there but I really expected more from the chef. Such fine timing on the squid but the chef left the duck to turn brown and less than juicy. My 2nd visit was my only dessert here. I ordered the pineapple with caramel. Oh my! what a nice dessert! Half a pineapple with the pineapple cut into chunks. I could see a few dark stripes of caramel but honestly can't figure out how much was pineapple or fruit with some caramelised sauce. I suspect and don't mind at all, that it was mostly half a pineapple but the caramel thing was added to entice orders. Whatever is going on, I would certainly...
Read moreA nice treat on a fall-like day in Budapest, our first visit to Parázs Presszó included Tom Yum Koong soup (with shrimp), the Fresh Roll with shrimp, Pad Thai Koong (shrimp), Pla Nung Manao (steamed bass with chili sauce) and Som Tam Papaya Poo (papaya salad with fresh crab).
The soup was amazing, but be warned that one bowl can suffice for two if you're having a full-course meal. The fresh rolls were very fresh and the flavors really jumped out at us. A great dish. I'm not a fan of pad thai, but my wife enjoyed it very much. For me the noodles were stuck together too much, but the flavor was very nice. The papaya salad was also very tasty and a bit spicy. The fish was our only disappointment. The fish tasted rather fishy and was somewhat overcooked. The way it's pre-sliced upon arrival made it harder to serve piece without the thin bones in them. And I think the spicy, pungent sauce overwhelmed the taste of the fish, which in this case wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
The service was excellent and we liked the atmosphere of the place, The crowd appeared to be primarily local couples and families.Prices are a bit on the high side by local standards, but not out of line for the quality of the food. We'll definitely be back to explore more items from the menu. I hear the green curry is something...
Read moreThe best of the restaurants from this chain! The place is casual, but it can also be romantic (my first date with my fiancée was there over 3 years ago and we never stop going). They do not offer delivery, but you can call and ask for takeout (IMPORTANT! If you order from a smartphone app you will probably be ordering from another restaurant from the chain and not from this one and I would highly recommend you don't do that since this is the best).
My all-time favorites: D2 - chicken red curry with bamboo and jasmin rice D9 - Minced chicken salad with jasmin rice (refreshing!!!) D18 - the duck variation of the D9. Very tasty! X10 - red curry with duck breast and jasmin rice. Tried it recently and fell in love with it. N9 - THIS IS AMAZING!!!! It is fried rice with chicken, beef, shrimp, cashew nuts, raisins and pineapple served in a pineapple!!!! My new favorite.
Reservation is usually not needed, but we tried to go there for valentine's day without having one and it wasn't possible (which is ok because we go there every week...
