This restaurant is Mediocre at best. And that’s me being generous. We had seafood pho and vermicelli with tofu. Pho was very salty and yet also managed to be very bland. The only flavor present was the overwhelming salt, used to mask the lack of true flavor. There was zero umami flavor, which is what pho is known for, it tasted more like vegeta (“maggi”) with some hot water. Only a tad of sprouts was given, but no fresh Asian basil (as is customary for pho), just some scant cilantro already in the pho. And salt. Lots of salt. Did I mention the salt? The vermicelli was also bland, basically just some salad with vermicelli and fish sauce. The lack of customers should’ve been a clear sign to walk out, but silly me, I thought the 4.9 stars were authentic. Clearly this place relies on fake reviews bank. I think it also relies on white customers (tourists) who don’t know what real Vietnamese pho should taste like. Also no plum sauce, which is what real pho is always served with. Oh the real kicker: on top of the high prices (way too high for what it was), it also automatically added 10% tip to the bill on a party of 2. Basically NYC prices (and tip expectations) but certainly not NYC quality food. Very disappointing. Oh yea, I almost forgot,...
Read moreMy wife and I have been living in Vietnam and have eaten Asian food frequently during our last three months in Europe. This place ranks very high in authenticity, service, ambience and price. We thoroughly enjoyed talking to the friendly owner, from Hanoi, and his son. We had the crispy duck, an excellent rendition of this Thai dish (we’ll be back in Vietnam soon, and can easily get the typical Vietnamese dishes here offers) but spoke to him at length about how he prepares the various Vietnamese dishes on offer. We’re sorry we’re leaving so soon, as these dishes are prepared from scratch in the traditional Vietnamese manner.
As for the crispy duck, it was served in a delicious and authentic red curry sauce with a healthy compliment of perfectly cooked vegetables. As they don’t “layer” the duck on its side it may look like a small portion. Trust me, it’s not!! The rice was of excellent quality, as well. Much better than any of the other rice we’ve eaten while in Budapest. Highly...
Read moreI had a great experience at Viet Vibe during my visit to Budapest. The restaurant has a clean, modern vibe with a relaxed atmosphere. I was lucky to grab a window seat, which made for some really enjoyable people-watching as I dined.
The service was genuinely warm and friendly. Staff were attentive without being overbearing, and everything was served with a smile.
I ordered the spring rolls, pad Thai, and a glass of white wine, all of which were fresh and flavorful. The pad Thai had the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and tangy, and the portion size was just right. The spring rolls were crisp and light, and the wine paired nicely with the meal.
Overall, Viet Vibe is a lovely spot for a casual yet tasty meal in the city. Great food, great service, and a perfect little view of Budapest life passing by. Would...
