Hamborgarabúlla Tomma—a culinary beacon in the world of burgers that doesn't quite feature a throne but sure knows how to crown a king! This joint is the burger equivalent of that slightly offbeat uncle who shows up at family gatherings wearing a Hawaiian shirt and somehow manages to charm the entire room.
Food: 5/5
Let's talk about the "Kóngur," their biggest burger, and quite fittingly, the reigning monarch of the menu. At a robust 150 grams of pure delight, this burger is the stuff of legend. Cooked to perfection, the meat was just the right amount of pink in the middle—juicy enough to make you question why you ever bothered with well-done. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful, as if each topping were vying for a chance to be in the spotlight. And that balance? Oh, it was like a burger symphony with a meaty crescendo.
The fries were...well, they were fries. No odes will be sung in their honor, but they did the job without complaints. Perhaps they were just trying to be polite and not upstage the burger.
Atmosphere: 5/5
Walking into Hamborgarabúlla Tomma is like stepping into a rock ‘n’ roll time capsule. The walls are festooned with posters of iconic pop and rock legends, each one a testament to the joint's musical soul. Pearl Jam was serenading us from the speakers, providing the perfect soundtrack for a burger devourer’s paradise. The volume was just right, allowing for both conversation and occasional air-guitar solos.
Service: 5/5
The staff here must have a secret stash of charm tucked away behind the counter. Friendly to both tourists and locals, they manage to make everyone feel like a regular—even if it's your first time. It's a place where you're greeted with a smile and possibly even a nod of respect for daring to tackle the "Kóngur."
Facilities: 4.5/5
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room—or rather, the missing toilet. For a place that makes you feel so at home, it’s a shame there isn’t a throne to call your own after a feast. But hey, perhaps it’s a strategic move to encourage walk-off digestion and a chance to explore nearby facilities. Also, while the "Kóngur" is indeed regal, there’s a small part of me that wishes for an even bigger burger for those who see 150 grams as merely a warm-up.
Overall Rating: 5/5
Hamborgarabúlla Tomma is a burger joint that ticks all the right boxes, even if it's a little cheeky about it. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this place is sure to satisfy your burger cravings with a side of good vibes and rock nostalgia. So, wear your stretchiest pants, bring a hearty appetite, and prepare to bow before the "Kóngur." Just remember, the only royal decree here is to...
Read moreVisited this little burger restaurant on the 28th November, 2023. After spending the day in Reykjavik, I was starving and spotted this place on my way to the Elding cruise at around 8pm. Throughout the day, I had been looking at the prices of small meals and they were all approximately 4000kr, which is about £25, give or take. I was so pleasantly surprised about the value for money of this place! They had a Tuesday offer on (not sure how long this will last, but it’s the reason for this review so if you are visiting anytime soon then I recommend coming here to eat!), which consisted of a cheeseburger, fries, and a refillable pop for 1990kr - around £12.50! For the price, you can’t go wrong! I didn’t see any alternatives on my travels for anywhere near as good of a price and the food was actually really nice. The staff were really friendly and accommodating too! I will say that the only downside is that the restaurant, probably due to it being quite small and quaint, didn’t seem to have a toilet (although I did not ask), but that’s not the biggest issue in the world. I would overall highly recommend eating here if you are struggling to find somewhere for which you won’t have to empty your entire purse; might be handy for those with large families, or big...
Read moreThis place served me the 2nd best burger I've paid for in my life (the best being a Kudu Burger at Old Biscuit Mill in Cape Town)! I can't say if it's the amount of BBQ-sauce, the bacon, their grilling technique or that it comes so greasy/juicy that the paper is almost soaked! The experience - and yes, that's what it is - of eating this burger at small, dursky joint, who's walls are covered in the guests praising scribblings, children's drawings and iconic images of Frank Sinatra and other old celebs, and with blocked view of the old harbor and a road it just does it for me!
The fries however could have come straight from McDonald's or any other burger franchise - horribly borring. But lets face it, it's not for the fries you come here! And for the price of 1290 ISK for the BBQ/bacon burger I dare say you get away cheaper than you would at any other burger joint in central Reykjavik. Your tastebuds and wallet will...
