Attempting to find a close eatery after our whale and dolphin tour. We saw this quirky and quaint spot right by the wharf. I tried a dish that perfectly embodies the concept of simple yet delicious food. It was a classic Artic Char in a cast iron skillet. The Char was pan seared, allowing it to hold a crispy crust but a flaky meat beautifully. There were a side of potatoes, carrots, and shaved beets as a topper. The fish was seasoned with cracked pepper and a drizzle of sunflower oil, highlighting the quality of the ingredients. Each bite was a burst of hearty and earthy flavor. My companion had Fish and Chips which were greasy and delicious. What stood out in my dish was how each component complemented the others without overwhelming the palate. It reminded me that sometimes, less really is more. The dish was comforting and satisfying, making it a true delight. I highly recommend trying it if you appreciate straightforward, wholesome cooking that lets the ingredients shine. We also tried the local Icelandic beer which was quite bitter. I don’t recommend that unless hops with a overload is your vibe. The restaurant was comfy and seemed like it would be busy during the evening hours. The staff took your order when you first came in. You sat yourself. And then they brought the food out to you and disappeared to leave you with your meal. They never checked on you or asked if you needed anything. Not sure if this is customary or not. I would 100% recommend this place; however, this place is very expensive. Our meals and one beer a piece cost us $81.10 USD. This is...
Read moreMy partner had the fish and chips, which he said was "okay." I have celiac disease and I don't eat seafood. I asked the young gentleman at the counter if the chicken could be made without bread crumbs and he said, "yes." So I ordered that. When he repeated the order back, I again specified "with no breadcrumbs." That's twice, for those keeping track at home. When the order arrived at my table, the chicken was very breaded. I gently explained to the waitress that I couldn't eat it and I explained what had happened with her colleague at the counter. I was in no way rude. She asked if I wanted to change my order to the only gluten free item on the menu, the arctic char filet. I declined, politely. The gentleman from the counter then came hot into the dining room to refund me cash and started yelling at me that he told me it had breadcrumbs and I should have told him I needed gluten free. I responded that the conversation we had was as I recounted above. He literally YELLED at me, totally creating a scene. I was diagnosed with celiac disease over a decade ago and I have traveled extensively in that time. I have NEVER had a problem before, and I've certainly never been yelled at by an employee in the dining room over a simple misunderstanding. I would suggest that this young man undergo further training before he is allowed to interact with customers. Or perhaps he needs to work on his...
