I'm sorry to have to say this, but I didn't have a good experience here.

Look, the venue itself and the staff were great! No issues there, whatsoever.

However, I tried the seafood gratin. It sounded delicious on paper, but it really didn't deliver on flavour in reality.

It was a gloopy, flavourless mess. Lots of thick cheese and cream. Then you have garlic bread - with even more cheese - as well as rice. It's a heavy, underseasoned, unforgettable thick dish. I understand that gratin usually means cheese, and I like cheese, but this was just a very average dish - like an average seafood pizza with cheese and veg.

You can't actually even taste seafood itself because it's so overdone with cheese and cream.

By Reykjavik standards of food, this was a total disappointment. And I've visited the city 9 times now in the past 2.5 years.

I saw the rating of this place and expected better. Perhaps other dishes are better, but this particular one was totally boring and a waste of money.

Though I'm not a vegan and neither is my partner, he tried the vegan date cake and to be fair, it was quite tasty for a vegan dessert - so kudos there.

But the star of the show should have been the seafood gratin and it was a total, utter...

We ate breakfast every morning here as it was included with our stay at 22 hill hotel next door. The food and presentation was excellent but Only two stars because because it was so dirty for 2/3 of our stay. The first couple days an older woman oversaw the bussing and cleaning and she was amazing- I felt like I was in someone’s graciously offered home. The rest of our stay a young guy was the server/busser on site. So Lazy and it showed. He kicked back behind the bar and surfer his phone. He waited 10-15 min to clear the tables and NEVER WIPED THEM. It was impossible to find a clean table and we and everyone else hand swept the crumbs to the floor. Gross and dirty. He also wouldn’t put out saucers for the tiny shallow coffee cups?! So you spill when walking and have no place for coffee spoons etc at the table which just makes more mess. I was really disappointed in this place the second half of our stay 12-29-1/1/20... I hope someone reads this and addresses the issues. Edit: this was just before the pandemic. Looking back I really hope they adjusted their...

When a restaurant doesn't offer salt and pepper to the guests, it's either being self-confident or careless. In this case, self-confident. The salad (side dish) was flavorful, as same as the seafood tagliatelle.

The Icelandic guests mentioned in some reviews only seem to enjoy lunch break. On a Friday evening in early November there were only tourists there.

The service is friendly but quickly distracted: I had ordered a bread basket with the tagliatelle and got a plate with garlic bread, which was served with the tagliatelle anyway. In order not to have to dispose of the bread, I offered to accept it and asked them to pack it later as a doggy bag. The more expensive garlic bread was then fully charged on the bill. Here I had hoped for a little more 'instinct', especially since the difference wasn't too big and the fault was definitely not mine. When paying in cash, the difference between the bill and the cash was kept without asking.

Conclusion: food good, service could be...
