After years of anticipation, I finally visited Flame Restaurant with a $300 gift voucher I got for my birthday. The interior was chic and modern, unlike anything else in Iceland—but the rave-like music killed the vibe completely.
We ordered the set menu with A5 Wagyu, langoustine, and extra sushi. The waitress laughed, saying we wouldn’t finish it all. I asked about the Icelandic langoustine, knowing Iceland’s langoustine fisheries had been suspended for years. It was actually Danish—misleading but still ordered.
The sushi starters and mocktails were great, and the teppanyaki chef was a delight. Then the food arrived: 1/5 stars. The A5 Wagyu was sinewy and flavorless, the “high-quality” steak was overcooked, tough, and off-tasting, and the lobster was vile. Even the scallops, prawns, and vegetables lacked flavor. The sauces made things worse—only the sushi soy sauce was decent.
After finishing the teppanyaki we patiently waited for our langoustine. A mix-up meant we never got our langoustine. Desserts were forgettable. The staff lacked knowledge, and service didn’t match the price point at all. Could have gone for a burger afterwards.
Overall? One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had worldwide. Glad it...
Read moreRead moreHad the sushi brunch here, two of us, my wife in a wheelchair and me. We could not eat the food, nor could many of the people around us. When we entered another older couple was arguing with the owner (I think) about the food being inedible, we should have left then. Food was some of the worst I have ever had in a restaurant anywhere in the world. Expensive, poor service, and truly bad food. I contacted the restaurant to ask for a refund, but they only offer a discount voucher which is hardly compensation for such an experience. Check other reviews of this place - as in other reviews, our food seemed to be prepared on a previous day and microwaved or worse. We also had concerns about the cleanliness of the food and the hygiene. Personally, I will not forgive them for serving food of such poor quality and ruining my wife's birthday meal, and then doing virtually nothing to rectify the situation, and I have a long memory for such things. The people at the table next to us were taking pictures and video of people complaining and the poor quality of the food - perhaps if they see some of these reviews or articles in the press like MBL or Visir, they will upload the photos. Avoid, you have bee...
My partner discovered that we had a gift card and we went to Flame on a whim. It was a Tuesday evening and the place was only minimally populated. I'm not lying when I say that both her and I agreed we got the best service we've ever experienced in any restaurant.
Our waiter was like a mind reader, catering to our every whim almost before we even asked. He was what made the atmosphere so great. The place is brighty lit and the ambient music is just the right level. The food was also great. I ordered a dry aged rib eye and my partner had chicken. When we told our waiter of her onion allergy he told us not to worry. The chef then whipped up a sweet curry sauce from scratch since the menu one included an onion base. We each had a mocktail which were just lovely.
I can absolutely recommend this place. Can't speak for the teppanyaki but the people there seemed to be enjoying themselves. As did we, just dining off the menu and with service like we experienced, we had a...
