Coast, the newest place in JP Nagar is now trending for its amazing Mangalorean fare. Fresh fish, beautiful masalas and fantastic recipes curated by Chef Arshita. Everyone gets a Kokum shot as a welcome drink when you enter the serene blue and bright atmosphere of the Coast. The white walls here are decorated with designs made of seashells, handicrafts like straw hats and give it a feel of Arabian Sea.
Starting off with an interesting dish called Chicken Green roast, yes you read it right, Chicken Green roast! The regular ghee roast is given a complete twist to make the green roast. Green chillies are sprouted inside the chicken and tossed in ghee and tempered with curry leaves and garnished with fried curry leaves again. This is definitely a beautiful start. Prawn Ghee Roast comes in next, Ghee Roast is the dish to judge a coastal restaurant and I say Coast@JP Nagar nailed it. Red chillies, tamarind and tomatoes in the right proportion with lots of ghee in different levels, WOW! Anjal, freshly caught, given a coat of garlic and Indian herbs, is tossed on the pan with the fish and a dash of coconut oil brings out the garlic from the humble base of the seer fish, from this garlic tawa Anjal fry. There is a regular Tawa fry of Anjal too, where you have the tag right even in the masala with the dry tamarind infused. For spice, we have the Ramnad, Kashmiri and byadagi chillies in the tawa fry masala is quite beautiful. This masala on a Bangade is so perfect! Also, who doesn’t love some butter garlic prawns, which is a delight again. The Mangalorean sukka is another dish which has to be spoken about, weather its Marvai sukka or Chicken Sukka. Turmeric, coconut and meat is all you taste in the dry or Sukka. Rava fry is not to be missed too.
Let us talk about the star of the day, Uppumunchi! Bangade or Anjal is given a rub of this rustic masala of salt, green chillies, fennel, coriander, this is now marinated, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed on a cast iron tawa. When this salty, spicy fish is steamed, its banana leaves, it just gets elevated. When you unwrap the leaf, a scent of masala, salt and fish arrives. Squeeze a bit of lemon, you will see the fish is cooked perfectly including the skin, have a bite and it is just a blast of flavours, with citrus bringing along all flavours intact.
Coast has lots of combos too! We got to try the fish combo, which has a glass of Kokum, a tawa fry of Bangade preferably, boiled rice, sardine fish curry, marvai sukka, neer dose and Pundi. This is a full on feast for one person.

Read moreCoast @ JP Nagar: A Delicious Journey Through Coastal Cuisine Had a fantastic meal recently at Coast @ JP Nagar and wanted to share my experience! This place is a real gem for seafood lovers, offering a delightful taste of coastal Karnataka. Must-Try Dishes: • Appam with Prawns Ghee Roast: This combination was an absolute winner. The appams were light and fluffy, perfectly complementing the rich and flavourful prawns ghee roast. The prawns were cooked to perfection, succulent and bursting with coastal spices. • White Rice with Bhuthai Curry (Matti fish): This dish was another highlight. The rice was cooked just right, and the bhuthai curry was simply divine. Rich, creamy, and packed with fish flavour, it was a true explosion of taste. Good Option, But Room for Improvement: • Kane Fish Tawa Fry: While the Kane fish tawa fry was decent, it didn't quite hit the high notes of the other dishes. The fish itself wasn’t fresh, but the Masala has balanced it. Sweet Ending: • Coconut Tender Payasam: No South Indian meal is complete without dessert, and Coast's coconut tender payasam was the perfect way to end the experience. Creamy, flavorful, and with a hint of sweetness, it was a delightful and refreshing finale. • Last but not least, we’ve got 2 shots of Kokam Juice as a complimentary. Overall Impression: Coast @ JP Nagar impressed me with its authentic flavours and fresh seafood. The appam and prawn ghee roast, and the bhuthai curry were exceptional. The service was friendly and attentive, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. But what truly elevated the whole experience was the ambience. The restaurant had a cool and inviting atmosphere. it the coastal-themed decor, comfortable seating, This ambiance transported me right to the coast, perfectly complementing the delicious food. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying exploration of coastal Indian cuisine. Just a heads up, the Kane fish tawa fry might be better suited if the...
