A fantastic spin-off to the famed coconut grove, Cocos bar and kitchen is a perfect precedent for the wonders that can happen when tradition meets modernity! The brain child of Nihal Thomas, Cocos is an easy breezy friendly neighborhood bar with tropical vibes, hidden among the bamboo. The bar has a quiet lower level, that's cosy and warm, and an eclectic, energetic upper outdoor area, and a more soothing indoor space. The crowd is constantly floating, with good music and a breath of freshness in the atmosphere.
The menu boasts of a variety of local finger licking recipes handcrafted by chef Tanmay, that come in smaller quantities and easy prices, that keeps you wanting to try more and more options without feeling a pinch.
They have a wide range from coastal, local, north indian and Italian. We tried their chicken reachado ghee roast, which is an interesting twist on its mangalorean counterpart. The grilled paneer was perfectly cooked with subtle flavours. Next, we tried the butter garlic prawn is aromatic and delicious, we also loved their perfectly cooked dum aloo with spices that leave a wonderful after taste.
We enjoyed these finger food with an array of crafty cocktails. The mixologist sure knows how to make a heady concoction. We tried the refreshing forage, the classic Clover club, the crowd favorite koffe, minty basil smash. We finished off our evening with the Martini, which is the special drink of every evening.
For dessert,we had the pick of the day, which was toffee sauce topped on rich fudgy brownie, which comes specially from Croons, their dessert partner.
It's a jolly good experience with vibrancy in everything around you, from the delicious food to delectable drinks, the gusty winds and the luscious greens. Do drop by if you're in...
Read moreCoco's is Church Street's newest addition on the block, with a vibrant ambience and some of the best music to keep you company through the night. Coco's seats about 100 folks at a time, and although the crowd is floating, everyone definitely has a great time here - their small plates curated by Chef Tanmay with the perfect portion sizes to go with an array of cocktails that they have on their menu.
The best part of Coco's is not their well sized portions, but their variety of options that will keep anyone with a craving satisfied. Be it regular finger food, north indian starters, goan food like pork chorizo with pao, they have it all. And since these portion sizes are not too heavy on the tummy, one can also try a bunch of different things when they visit. The highlight for me was definitely the Chorizo, and would highly recommend their butter garlic prawns that are cooked to perfection and will leave you nostalgic for the beach holidays! The Chicken Reachado Ghee Roast is an interesting take on the famous Mangalorean style ghee roast, but with a twist - perfect option for someone with a good tolerance for spice!
Coco's has a great variety of cocktails to light up your evening (especially with Gin). The Ko-FFe made with coffee liquer and gin, with a bit of coconut was a crowd favourite. Gin Basil Smash, and the Clover Club are other options if you're looking for something simple or with a tinge of citrus.
Coco's has also partnered with Croons - who supplies delicious brownies topped with toffee sauce that truly is the perfect end to your meal.
All in all, would highly recommend a visit to Coco's to get your hands on some lip smacking bar food (that's not usually around), and leave happily buzzed with their smooth cocktails. Cost for two...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at Coco's - Avoid at All Costs!
I'm writing this review as a warning to others after a shocking experience at Coco's, a place I once loved. My friend and I, both adults in our late 20s and early 30s, were denied entry because we'd had 1-2 drinks while bar-hopping on Church Street. The manager, Vikas, insisted on smelling our mouths and interrogating us about our alcohol consumption. When we explained we were responsible drinkers, he claimed that allowing patrons who'd had a few drinks would lead to vomiting in the restaurant - a ridiculous assumption and he also claimed it was restaurant policy.
Church Street is known for its bars and nightlife, and it's absurd to expect customers to arrive sober. The whole ordeal felt like we were being suspected rather than treated as valuable customers, not a restaurant definitely with great value for customers. The staff's ill-mannered behavior and absurd rules left a sour taste. It's clear they've forgotten how to provide basic customer service. Vikas, the manager, desperately needs a refresher course in hotel management.
What's worse, this was my first visit to Coco's in 4-5 years, and it's heartbreaking to see a once-beautiful spot devolve into this. Unless they overhaul their staff and policies, I strongly advise against wasting your time and money. Coco's has lost its charm and its customers' trust.
Rating: (minus)-10 /5 ( There wasn't any negative rating system available, I took the liberty of rating this to Mr. Vikas the manager at Coco's Church street who claimed then that the negative reviews wouldn't impact Coco's or him...
